I come from a family who's dad was a Marine pilot in Vietnam. My uncle was a chopper pilot there too. I have two brothers who were in Iraq, one a chopper pilot the other a weapons officer. My mom was a military brat. My family taught me wood craft where at the age of thirteen I was dropped off in the forest with just the basics and had to survive for three days. Later I joined the Marine reserve and went through boot camp. I did everything the guys did. I came home, became an FAA certified pilot flying jets. I now work in Australia flying planes into the outback where any Marine pilot would crap his or her pants landing on the strips I do. Don't tell me I don't know what Ranger or infantry combat is like. I can handle any weapon from a .45 up to a .300mag rifle. I own my own varmint rifle, a 22-250 that I sighted out to 500 yards to knock off prarie dogs at 600 yards. I shoot elk across a 300 yard canyon and help backpack it home. I'll go up against any Marine Recon anytime anywhere anyplace. And I'm only 5'6 and weigh in at 110lbs.

When I was a young man, I was 6’2”, 190lbs and if I say so myself, a hell of an athlete. I held a lot of athletic records, some for a very short time and some for many years. I still hold a couple of obscure ones which are over 40 years old.

Despite that, I would not have even tried to complete Ranger or any other elite training. Actually I was drafted and failed my physical. I am partially deaf from shooting without any protection when I was just a kid.

The reason I would not have even tried was I would have known I could not pass. I was always terrible in endurance events and that would have been totally necessary.

Now despite not being good enough to pass elite military training, I am pretty sure I could throw a shot or discus or run the 100 meters faster than any woman. Can’t be totally certain on the shot or discus as the weights I threw were heavier. I am sure about the hundred meters tho.

Doing what? I can see you done some things, but please. You'd never make it through the O'Club let alone the bush in combat. The only reason you wouldn't die immediately, is most of us have a sense of chivalry and you sound like you could be fun.

OK, so you fly and you shoot. That’s not Infantry combat.

I do think some women could potentially make it through Ranger School, but very, very few, and that’s the problem. The standards WILL be relaxed for them in order to increase their pass rate. It will be a dishonorable victory, all so females can wear a tab. Terrific. But at least you can beat your chest and do the “I am woman, hear me roar” thing. For all the good it’ll do you.

Regardless of the outcome of such match, I admire your attitude. No one likes a defeatist.

I personally think the probability of women qualifying for the Rangers is so low as to not warrant consideration. However, I would not want to preclude women soldiers from trying any more than I would want to prevent girls from trying out for their high school football team. I suspect the percentages will be similar.

In order to not burden the Rangers or Spec Op's, I would require that in order to show up as a Ranger/Spec Op candidate, a certificate of minimum qualifications must accompany each candidate. If a woman soldier can meet the minimum requirements, she deserves a fair chance.
