Washington (CNN) -- A U.S. Navy drone crashed Monday in a marsh near Salisbury, Maryland. The RQ-4A Global Hawk drone crashed during a routine training flight from Naval Air Station Patuxent River, according to Jamie Cosgrove, a spokeswoman for the Unmanned Aviation and Strike Weapons Program at the base.

Great poster. Do you think Maryland will find a way to tax drone hunting permits now?

7.62x54r are incendiary and armor piercing just by their very nature. ;-)

I believe a local Iraqui freedom fighter used a Mosin Nagant rifle loaded with such to take down a BlackHawk back in 2003. Both the pilot and co-pilot did survive the crash.

There are several Navy test sites along the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern shore areas.

Dang... I’m in Maryland. I got to call some friends for a quick alibi. Be right back.... /s

Folks,
Locally, this is reported as a Coast Guard drone. It crashed at Nanticoke, on the eastern shore. That’s the south-east part of Maryland, east of the Chesapeake bay. I don’t know what Coast Guard facility it would have been flying out of.
Aberdeen Proving Ground is Army base, located close to I-95 and bridge over Susquehanna River (northern end of the Chesapeake Bay, on western side of the Bay.

Correct - and Bloodsworth Island was or is one of them (I live on MD's Eastern Shore). FWIW they are now saying it crashed _near_ the island, and also I mis-spelled Salisbury (a prominent local family is named Saulsbury so I make that mistake sometimes).
I think it was spying on preparations for the 63rd annual Chicken Festival. ;)

My husband says that they should not call this a “drone”, which is a term usually used to describe a much cheaper, possibly expendable craft. The Global Hawk, a remotely-controlled UAV, is $40M per aircraft.
He says it was developed by the Air Force, so, of course, this is bound to happen when the Navy tries to fly it.

It is a dark day as the drone tragically crashed onto a cemetery.
Dozens of bodies have been recovered and it is predicted that there may be hundreds more.

LOL....trying to pry the secrets of that 50’ frying pan. Good to see folks from the Eastern Shore posting...Dover raised, escaped to Accomack Co. to escape the NY/PA/NJ invasion.
