The Clintons' Covert War on Obama (Panic setting in among the people who ran the Democratic Party)
American Thinker ^ | 06/11/2012 | Thomas Lifson

Panic is setting in among the people who ran the Democratic Party prior to the miraculous arrival on the scene of Barack Hussein Obama and the perfect storm of events that propelled him into the White House.

These people, starting with Bill Clinton, the master Democratic politician of our era, can read the tea leaves, and the following factors alarm them:

1. Obama has energized his opposition. Despite throwing everything they could into the game, the turnout effort in Wisconsin was handily beaten by those Tea Party nobodies and an RNC head who is actually up to the job.

2. Obama has alienated hugely important constituencies. Labor unions, utterly essentially to the ground game in November, feel betrayed, and are starting to focus more on their own survival than the success of the Obama re-election campaign. The antiwar left feels betrayed over Gitmo, drones, rendition, domestic surveillance, and a host of other issues. They turned out in San Francisco picketing his fundraisers, and spoke of not voting. His Bain Capital attacks are verging into a repudiation of capitalism, so Wall Street and the finance sector are getting alarmed, and the essential flow of political contributions to Democrats from them is drying up.

3. The economy is a disaster, and Obama is doing all the wrong things. The administration is reduced to making implausible claims of spending moderation based on an internet post. The public is fed up with Obama's performance, and his personal popularity is declining and will tank further as he goes increasingly negative on Romney. Swing voters are almost as negative about Obama as are Romney voters.

4. Obama is out for himself, and himself only.

Just like the one redeeming thing The Swimmer did in his life was to effectively torpedo Jimmy Carter’s re-election chances.

In NEITHER of these two elections did Clinton even get 50% of the vote.

Exactly right. My thinking at the time was that no President should be permitted to be seated without taking a minimum of 50% of the vote. Had we had a provision for Runoff, Clinton would likely have won neither election.

Bill WAS and IS 'news and entertainment.'

He was a disgusting human being, and certainly unworthy of leading a great nation. He perfectly represents the media people though. Like him, they are a-moral.

Well yeah, good point, and very good analogy.

Way back when many previous lives ago I knew someone who knew the swimmer right around that time.

Allegedly the swimmer would be watching Carter on TV or whatever and saying “F Carter, F Carter, F Carter” so the animosity was apparently very deep seated.

To me, this article is setting up for Hiillary to take Biden out and she becomes the VP for Obama. This is the only he can win a second term. Then Hilliary is set up for a win in 2016.

I think it's a HUGE assumption that HC actually has a reasonable chance to be elected president. Throughout her career as wife-of-Bill, she's shown herself to be extraordinarily inept politically. Couple that with her very high negatives (historically), and all the skeletons in her closet that would receive much more scrutiny in a presidential bid, and I don't think she can win a national general election.

Basically, she's just too unlikable, and turns too many people off. Even though she (undeservedly) has good approval ratings as SOS, that won't necessarily translate over in a presidential race, when the stakes are so high for the country.

I think it’s simpler than all of this. Bill is a full blown Narcissist, so he wants to be the man everyone looks to. If Obama wins, Obama will be remembered as a two-term hero to the left, and he will be the most important guy in the Democratic Party. He’ll get the demand for speaking and counsel, and analysis of events. Bill will be just another old two term democrat President, who noboy wants to hear from.

If Obama goes down however, Bill is the elder statesman who harkens back to a fondly remembered time when Democratic Presidents served two terms. Obama is just a bad memory nobody wants to talk about.

This type of passive aggressive stuff is exactly how the narcissist operates. Bill wants to remain relevant, so he wants Obama to go down, and he will do whatever he can to make it happen.

It’s actually quite funny to watch, from a great distance.

“So, while you are free to express your opinion, respect the opinions of others.”

very good point. however, one would hope that those here at FR who support Romney would be afforded the same courtesy, and they are not. there is a small cadre of anti-Romney/ anti-mormon religious bigots here on FR who would prefer the re-election of the Islamist-in-hiding: BHO-who? for whatever reason, they fear Romney more than BO-who.

God Save America from 4 more years of BO.

Good Luck with that!

Personally, I would vote for Dogcrap Steaming-Pyle before I would miss the chance to, once again, vote against Obama.

“the Republican Congress will be swept out in 2014.”

This is correct, economic instability leads to political instability (as in throw the bums out every 2 years), which leads to more economic instability etc.

Romney has a small window to show an improving economy, or he will be facing tough political headwinds from an impatient electorate. If he doesn’t deliver quickly the mood of the voters will then swing back to the Democratic parties solutions voiced by Hillary in 2016.

Give it a rest.

If you don't like Romney vote for Obama or don't vote at all - and live with the consequences.

“to me, this article is setting up for Hillary to take Biden out”

What would the advantage be for Hillary under this scenario?
There is a lot of risk with this move. If she becomes the VP candidate, and Obama still loses, she will be tainted as a loser.
If Obama wins, that will be 8 years of Democratic rule, and there would be a good chance the voters would be tired of the Obama regime and be hungry for change with the new faces in the Rep party offering a more attractive choice.

If she remains on the sidelines in 2012, and Obama loses the nomination is hers for the asking, and she will not have any Obama baggage on her resume.

Add it all up and I don’t see her taking the offer, as 2016 is her last opportunity to be President she wants to run in 2016 on her own terms and not as a representative of the Obama administration.

We need to get the Senate....without out it Mittens will get nothing done...

What exactly do you think Mittens is going to try to "get done"? If you think he's going to use the leverage of a Republican dominated House and Senate to push through legislation that will actually reverse the liberal Democrats' destruction to this nation, you've got another think coming.

Everything he did while Governor of Massachusetts, pushed forward the leftist agenda.

Check his actual record if you want to know what he's going to do in office, and don't believe for a minute that a Republican Congress is going to stand up to it. They're going to roll right over for the liberal RINO.

RINO Romney is NOT the candidate YET.

If you don’t like that, stay on your knees to
the proven liar and backstabber Mr. RomneyCARE
and live with the consequences.
