The Obama campaign wants to make the 2012 contest a choice between its candidate and the Republican party; the Romney campaign wants to make the vote a referendum on Barack Obama. Mitt Romney is laying low, letting the election revolve around Obama--and winning. While his campaign pushes back against Obama and the mainstream media, Romney is shaking hands on the trail--and winning support in key swing states.
At the outset, Romneys path to victory seemed a narrow one. It was universally agreed that the 2012 contest would be fought in roughly ten swing states. But Obamas weak economic performance, and Romneys quietly effective campaign, has narrowed the field of play. It is now reasonable to imagine that Romney will win in North Carolina and Florida--two states that Obama won in 2008 and that he will likely lose this time around.

Not a “Romney Troll” at all. I’m a realist. And I despise President Narcissus.
If you go back on my posts this year, my guy was Herman Cain before they “Clarence-Thomassed” him.
I also liked Michelle Bachmann until she became vulnerable to media attacks. And I would have wanted Congressman Mike Rogers to run, but he didn’t.
Herman Cain would have had an easier time winning as a candidate than Romney because he’d be like a trojan horse. Romney’s problem is he’s a “good-looking/successful/white male.”
Those issues wouldn’t have been a problem for Cain at all, so as it is Romney’s got an uphill battle to overcome the bigotry in this country against “good-looking/successful/white males.”
And no, I don’t think Palin is a good candidate at all. Loved her after her first public speech, but then it was downhill from there. She’s horribly inarticulate. Sorry, but the MSM would have too much fodder for ad hom attacks on her and it works because the masses don’t see thru their ad homs.
I love that repetitive line.
I didn't go back much into your Romney trolling history, I only looked at 2009 and 2010. Romney, Romney, bash Palin, Romney, Romney, bash Palin, attack Reagan, the usual stuff.
you state in my past posts, I “...attack Reagan” WTF???
I’ve met Reagan (spent 15 minutes chatting with him) and have pictures of me shaking his hand. One is hung in my living room to scare away any liberal swine. Reagan is almost a deity in my mind, so don’t try to pull that on me. Understood?
Yes, I was impressed with Mitten’s debating style in 2008 as compared to McCain. So I posted here that he’d make mincemeat out of Obama back then.
Whether you like Mittens or not, the 2012 debates will be a lot of fun. Mittens can be a pitbull. Get out the popcorn.
You guys need to convince guys like me what your goal is at this late stage in the campaign game...
Give me a strong reason to vote for Obama (e.g. by not voting at all, you’re wasting a vote that could have helped unseat Obama).
Alternatively, state how we can get a Herman Cain (or other true conservative) on the ticket instead of Romney (I’ve said I’m concerned that his whole ambiance — good looking succesful white male — is easy fodder for the liberal media, haven’t I?).
So how can conservatives unseat Romney at this juncture? As much as I would like a better candidate, it seems the writing’s on the wall.
Once Romney is the candidate, what do we do? Vote for Obama?
Sorry, but I just can’t...
If your hatred for Romney is equivalent to (or more than) your hatred for Obama, then, by all means, vote for Obama and be done with it.
Rubio knows he is inelegible to be President or Vice President under the strict definition of natural born citizen.

Then why has he not stepped up and said: “ENOUGH ALREADY!!! Stop all this talk about me being Vice President. I’m not qualified.”
The GOP-e should have thought of that before they began their fraudulent primary process, now shouldn't they?Oh, please.
Give me your location and I'll call you a waaaaaaaaaaambulance.
Here's a fact:
The day Santorum dropped out of the race (April 10?) here was the vote count:
Romney: approx 5 million votes
Non-Romney/non-Paul: approx 6 million votes
That means that conservative voters (not even counting Ron Paul voters, at least some of whom must be considered conservatives) out-voted Romney 6 million to 5 million.
Now, who's fault is it that we didn't unite and beat Romney?
Is it the fault of someone else, or the fault of ourselves?
Like I said, give me your location and I'll call you a waaaaaaaaaaaaaamublance.
In the Midwest, I truly believe that Romney will take Michigan and Wisconsin. Not sure about Ohio.
I studied the map yesterday and this morning. I truly believe that Romney will take Virginia, Michigan and Wisconsin. I lived in MI for 10 years; have many friends there. They assure me that MI, who elected a Pubbie governor last time around, will go GOP in November. Scott Walker has made a lot of Union folks (30,000) happy in WI by allowing them to opt out of paying Union Dues and with other reforms. Thirty-seven (37) percent of Union households went for Walker in the Recall Election. As for Virginia, all I can give you on that is my gut; I think Romney takes it.
>> There is no particular political affinity between, say, Cuban-Americans and Mexican-Americans. <<
Sure. But I remember back in 2007 and 2008, when many “experts” were saying that Obama wouldn’t have a strong appeal to most Afro-Americans, since he didn’t have “slave blood” and since he grew up in Hawaii rather than in the ghetto. How wrong they were!
Therefore, I have to wonder if the same sort of “racial pride” might not influence a big percentage of Mexican-American voters. A useful impact wouldn’t even require an actual majority. So if for example Rubio could draw in something like 30 to 40% of the Mex-Am voters, then they might give the GOP the margin of victory in a few swing states like NM, NV and CO.
(And it probably need not be said that with a close tally in the electoral college, these states could determine the outcome of the POTUS contest.)
Yep, and the REAL reason for Arthur's collapse is that the Blaine supporters on FR did a very effective job of letting everybody know that Arthur wasn't an NBC!
Moreover, when Blaine died, a well-thumbed copy of Vattel's book (in French) was found in Blaine's library!
>> Its frustrating and impossible to rationalize with some people. <<
Yes, and not only that:
A lot of these posters obviously love the attention they get from rational people like you and KC. If we just ignore them and their insane posts, most of them probably will go away much more quickly than if we keep trying to reason with them.
Listen, Al, it is with a sense of pride and self-respect that I will.be casting my vote for Tom Hoefling this November. I will not be ashamed of my vote and I won’t be apologizing for it. I will not be trying to rationalize my behavior by whimpering about how frightened I am of a future without a President Romney to protect me.
Kickass, if I was ashamed of my candidate, if I felt a need to apologize for voting for him, I wouldn’t brag about it.
Frankly, I don’t think either McDonnell or Rubio would be a good VP pick. Nor would West. Not one of them has any real experience with the federal govt and how it works. Since Romney himself lacks that experience/knowledge, he needs a running mate to offset that gap.
I’d really like to see people who are knowledgeable about and experienced in the government they are seeking to run. Amateur hour should end 1/20/13.
I think people will treat you like a man even if you don’t hold up pictures of John Wayne when you have something you want to say.
It’s great to see another Hoefling voter!
Mutual and likewise, FRiend!
As a Conservative I’m ashamed that my Candidate(s) of choice could not cut the mustard and get the Nomination. That is the Primary System in action. The Candidates have to convince a lot more people to Vote for them than the Posters on this Forum. That’s the Reality.
Romney, if that’s who you are referring to, isn’t “my” Candidate, he is the Candidate chosen by the Republican Party to oppose the Worst President in my Lifetime.
The situation is clear whether we like it or not, two choices, one Vote, figure it out.
