The police chief in the Alabama city of Auburn said early Sunday that authorities responded overnight to a report of multiple gunshot victims at an apartment complex, but he added he was not immediately releasing any further information.
Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson told the Opelika-Auburn News that police answered a report of multiple shooting victims Saturday night but he had no immediate comment on the situation, the circumstances involved or whether anyone was in custody.
The newspaper reported that several emergency vehicles had converged on the University Heights apartment complex where a number of students who attend Auburn University typically reside.

Chief Dawson is not talking about motive or evidence. “That is something for the courts.”
Suspect is Desmonte Leonard of Montgomery. He is 22.
It happened at a party but they’re not saying what the party was about. Three warrants have been issued for Leonard charging him with capital murder.
The only connection that the AU football team has with this is that they are the VICTIMS.
AUPD is passing out a picture of the suspect. I’ll post it when I can.
Perp has no affiliation with AU.
Thanks for website. They were showing pic of suspect.
IMO, Dawson is doing a great job of protecting evidence and testimony for the trial.
AUBURN UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT JAY GOGUE
“We’re deeply saddened about last night’s tragic events that impacted the Auburn community and the Auburn family. Our heart-felt condolences go out to the victims and their families. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. We’re in constant contact with area authorities and will continue to assist in any way possible. Our attention is now focused on providing care and support to those touched by this tragedy.”
The following are statements from head football coach Gene Chizik and Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs in the wake of the deaths of Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips.
COACH Gene Chizik
“This is a sad, sad day for everyone associated with the entire Auburn family. I am devastated by the passing of three young men, including two that I personally knew in Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips and my heart goes out to their families. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and all of the victims involved in this tragic incident. Nobody should ever have to endure such unimaginable grief, and we will love and support the victims’ families during this terribly difficult time. We have a lot of people on our football team that are hurting right now and we’re going to do everything we can to help them get through this. We are relieved that Eric Mack, who was also a victim in this incident, is expected to make a full recovery. This is a very trying time for everyone involved, and I would just ask that you lift up the victims and their families in your prayers.”
DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS Jay Jacobs
“This is a tragic day for the entire Auburn community. First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families who have been devastated by this senseless tragedy. We will support the families of the victims in the difficult days ahead in every way that we possibly can. Our student-athletes are obviously stunned and deeply saddened, and we are providing counseling and support for them as they grieve the loss of their teammates and friends.”
Hope they apprehend him quickly.
Auburn Police Department Chief Dawson Press Conference: Desmonte Leonard of Montgomery, AL is shooting suspect and two other Persons of Interest sought. The police have filed three warrants for Leonard with capital murder.
Police confirm the victims: 20 year old Ed Christian deceased at scene, 20 year old Ladarious Phillips pronounced deceased at scene. Demario Pitts deceased at hospital.
Leonard is thought to be in the Montgomery area and is entreated to turn himself in. Leonard should be considered armed and dangerous.
Once again, were seeing mass murders and mass shootings occurring in smaller towns...
If Leonard had a father, he’d look like .....
Leonard won’t be free for very long. He likely doesn’t have the resources to just skip town. No one will cover for him with all this heat on. His family will come to the cameras and let us all know he’s a good boy who just fell in with bad company.
If he’d killed 3 random 20 year olds in Montgomery, no one would know about it. Yet, that is exactly what happens, if not every day, at least every week in cities across the US; other than family/friends, no one gives a damn. Life, far too often, has become totally meaningless unless it’s someone with a degree of celebrity or the murder took place at a location not normally known as a crime scene.
