A new study by 22 biologists and ecologists has found that environmental changes on our planet are reaching a point of no return that leads to mass extinctions and harms human welfare. The situation, said one scientist, scares the hell out of me. That would be James H. Brown, one of the authors of alarming paper published by Nature, talking to New York Times Green blogger Justin Gillis. Brown is not one of your everyday cranks predicting raptures and the end of days. He is a macroecologist at the University of New Mexico. And as The Atlantic's James Fallows, who pointed out this terrifying study to us, writes, this could be the most important news of 2012. How soon do these scientists expect the world as we know it to end? Gillis writes, "within a few human generations, if not sooner." The most frightening thing is that this finding isn't about what will come if we do not act, but that our effects on the planet's environment -- global warming, population growth, and overall resource extraction -- means that we've already passed a "tipping point." This isn't a plea for change. These are things scientists have been warning us

I have thought that more than once during the 0bama presidency! Even more so if he gets reelected!
Whatever. IMO they make this stuff up to get more grants.
I don’t know. We just got home from the most beautiful drive back from WV and through Maryland, Cumberland gap, etc — through lush green mountain forests and rolling country hillsides ...the air was simply fragrant as we stopped atop the mountain tonight — a faint hint of honeysuckle mixed with a cool mountain breeze.
If this is the end of the world, we’re doing pretty good in this part of the world.
We would all be much better off.

They’ve beaten themselves stupid with their own hockey stick.
Ohhhhh nooooooeeeeeeeees! Are these the same ‘scientists’, perchance, who believe in population control and think there should be a minimum population on earth for ‘sustainability’?
Mmmm hmmmm. Thought so.
So what’s their problem with people dying because of ‘globull warming’? Seems to me they should be wetting their drawers for that opportunity to arise.
If we can get rid of these idiots by the world ending, it will be a big plus. This plague of stupidity must be stopped.
Seems some stuff has been coming out of the Bilderberg meeting.
When I lived in Green Bay WI, any seafood restaurant featured frog legs on the menu and they were OK for Catholics to eat on Friday!
Some skeptic described the plagues visited upon Egypt and concerning the plague of frogs, wrote, “but Pharaoh, who liked them fricaseed, said he could stand it for as long as the frogs and the Hebrews could.”
Then there was that cartoon in National Lampoon.......
I swear 99.9% of people believe one stupid thing or another. I can’t decide who is the greater nut-job, one who thinks socialism and distribution of wealth is the answer, or one who thinks the Earth is a boundless panacea from God.
Is anyone out there rational? Hello?
Pffttt!!! Another group of idiots in the Paul Erlich mold! When they are proven wrong they will merely rejigger the prophecy and go right along.
Thanks presidio9.
Hmm, sounds series and possibly hugh.
Is that what you really think? That 99.9% believe one or the other?
