Frustrated liberals want more from Obama

Published June 08, 2012

| Associated Press

They are trying to be hopeful, but the Democratic Party's most passionate voters are struggling to hide their frustration with President Barack Obama.

Republicans may attack the president as a big-government liberal, but many liberals meeting Thursday at Netroots Nation -- an annual convention likened to "a giant family reunion for the left" -- argue that Obama hasn't fought hard enough for progressive priorities on taxes, health care and the economy. Even more problematic for the president is this: With the election just five months away, some are threatening not to donate money or time or even vote in November for the man who overwhelmingly ignited their passions and captured their imaginations four years ago.

"I want to be happy with him," said Democrat Kristine Vaughan, a 45-year-old school psychologist from Canton, Ohio. "But I am finding that he has succumbed to the corporate influence as much as everyone else. I think he has so much potential to break out of that, but overall he has been a disappointment."

Vaughan isn't sure whether she'll vote for Obama a second time and probably won't donate money as she did during his first campaign. She refuses to support Republican challenger Mitt Romney, but is considering writing in another candidate in protest.

Nanny-state morons. I know it is a novel idea, but maybe they should get a job and earn what they get and pay some taxes.....not in their universe.

Low-lifes.

Ah, yes. The meeting of Netroots Nation.

This used to be called “Yearly Kos”, as it was an annual meeting of the “Daily Kos” crowd.

Why did they change the name? Did they want to blur the association with the Daily Kos crowd????

This may not be relevant to this thread, but it occur ed to me this morning, that when charity is given from individual to individual the receiver is grateful but when government gives to the individual, it's never enough.

Along the lines of the above Matthews is on (MSNBC 10:30 am EST) Jansing+CO calling for Obama to demand that Republicans pass a huge massive roads and bridges and railroads jobs bill, to help HIM (Obama) get re-elected.

This is along the lines of the argument that Obama is not running on specifically anything for his second term, except raises taxes on the rich.

Matthews is freaking out shouting down the Republican on the show. He says business is keeping the economy crappy because they want Obama to lose, he didn't say why they want this but implied it is not about profits (racists?)

Let's see he rammed through 0bamacare, we had a trillion $ stimulus, and nothing to show for all that money, we've doubled the national debt in less than 4 years. What else do the NUT-roots want?
If he gets any more of his agenda passed, we'll be living in Zimbabwe.

Not buying this.

Like OWS was the leftist’s answer to the Tea Party, this is just leftists wanting to appear to be divided like conservatives and the GOP-E.

The left is one big conglomerated domestic enemy of freedom, property rights, and the constitution, and must be defeated at EVERY election from now on.

Very true. I think it's because the receiver looks the giver in the eye, and knows that the giver doesn't have an endless supply of resources. If the receiver has any self respect, he feels obligated to pay it back either directly, or by doing onto others once he gets on his feet. Because of the personal connection the receiver is often inspired to better himself. This is why INDIVIDUAL (as opposed to collective) charity is encouraged in the Bible, it has the potential to better both sides.

With a faceless government program, there is no connection. The "giver" (taxpayer) feels robbed, and the receiver feels entitled.

"He's done a good job, but he could have done a lot better," said Ed Tracey, 55, of Lebanon, N.H., who heads his local chapter of the group, Drinking Liberally.

I guess Ed was drunk for the past 4 years. I'd love to know what exactly 0blather has done a good job on?

Frustrated libs will vote for 0bama. We can always encourage them to write in their favorite Alynskyite as a third party candidate against 0bama like Ross Perot helped Clinton win.

Obama is going to have to throw them more Commie red meat in order to keep them onboard.

That is going to scare even more independents over into the Romney camp.

Fighting Romney is like boxing a ghost because he’s a squeaky clean Mormon (so can’t dig up any scandal on him) and since the Bain thing flamed out, there’s really nothing for independents to dislike about him.

This could be “game over”.

From the article:

"I want to be happy with him," said Democrat Kristine Vaughan, a 45-year-old school psychologist from Canton, Ohio. "But I am finding that he has succumbed to the corporate influence as much as everyone else. I think he has so much potential to break out of that, but overall he has been a disappointment."

She is right about Obama pretending to be anti-Wall-Street while promoting some of the worst practices of crony capitalism. I try to explain that to my Dem friends and acquaintances, but I think some of them are figuring at least part of it out without my help. I'll bet they will vote for O. but I don't want them to feel good about it.
