Whatever Scott Walker's fate, Barack Obama may drag some bragging rights out of the Wisconsin governor's recall election: Voters in preliminary exit poll results today say they favor Obama over Mitt Romney in November's presidential election by a slight 6-point margin (51-45 percent).
These results are preliminary so it remains to be seen if that result will hold in final exit poll results later tonight. If so, it might provide Obama forces with pushback should Walker, the incumbent Republican, prevail in the recall election against Democratic candidate Tom Barrett, the mayor of Milwaukee.
Barrett lost to Walker when the two faced off in 2010. One possible boost for Barrett this year comes from union voters: Nearly a third of voters in preliminary exit poll results say they're from union households, up from 26 percent two years ago. And slightly more than half say they have a favorable impression of public employee unions; restrictions on such unions that were backed by Walker led to the recall.
But voters in these preliminary results divide almost exactly evenly on Walker's handling of those unions, with high levels of strong sentiment on both sides.
The division between Democrats and Republicans is much like it was in 2010, with both their numbers slightly down, and an apparent increase in turnout by independents in these preliminary results. Partisan divisions are very similar to their levels two years ago - but with an apparent rise in opposition to the Tea Party political movement, expresed by 31 percent in 2010, vs. 36 percent in these preliminary resuts.
Another result, at the same time, holds some promise for Walker: Wisconsin voters are more apt to say government "is doing too many things better left to businesses and individuals" than to

Democrats will still be cleaning the crap out of their britches come November, and Romney will win.
“It shows there are enough Walker voters that are willing to let 0bama win another term out of spite towards Romney.”
What .. like USA hasnt BLED ENOUGH due to 4 years of Obama???
I’m sorry, but if the answer is 4 more years of Obama, it’s a real stupid premise / question.
Obama is going to get landslided.
Either the numbers are cooked, or Wisconsin voters really are idiots...
ABC needs to be compelled to file as a 527 political organization since they are so obvious in their blaring support of The Won.
“Why post this article?”
I was thinking the same thing.
That same section caught my eye as well. What they’re saying is that within union households union support is about 50-55%. Given that union membership in AFSCME has fallen by more than half tells you something. The spin is absurd.
Let me see if I got this straight. Last year Obama won Wisconsin by a whopping 14 pt margin. Right now the media exit polls claim two things: Walker is tied with his opponent...and Obama is up by 6 against Romney among the same voters. But wait...the exit polls had it wrong about Walker to tune of a seven point shift...thus the take away is that Obama's HUGE Wisconsin advantage of 14 points from 2008 has plunged to a one point disadvantage...so what does this say about battle ground states???
Sour grapes from ABC.
Boy that was some fast and furious spin by the Left. Was a poll of likely voters taken because those likely voters just reelected Walker.
Its also wishful thinking
Well, my mother is one. But I don’t know if she’ll be an Obama voter again. She said ‘a lot of people who don’t agree with Walker are mad about the recall.’
Wis GOP needs to link Obama with public sector union bullying in general. BO knows this and skipped WI.
This isn’t rocket science.
I did exit polling for extra cash in the 1980s in California.
So...who did sergeantdave ask for opinions? Young and cute honeys who also happened to be left wing, brainless liberals. I admit that my exit polling results were a bit skewed.
Shoot me.
