ROCKINGHAM, N.C. —
When Trey Gainey drove his pickup truck to school Monday morning, he didn’t expect to be met in the parking lot by school officials telling him to remove a Confederate flag flying from his antenna.
The Richmond Senior High School junior said he flies the flag every weekend, and decided to leave the flag on his truck on his last day of classes before finals start.
Gainey has a belt buckle that says “Redneck” and a horn that plays “Dixie,” so there is no mistaking how the teen identifies himself.
“It’s just my Southern heritage, you know. I was born and raised down here and [it] wasn’t nothing racist, just me,” he said.
But when he drove into the school’s parking lot, school officials made him take it down.
“I’m like, ‘What have I done wrong?’ you know,” Gainey said.
So, the teen told the school officials he would not remove the flag.

We disagree. Schools should be able to control behavior, including attire, in the classroom that disrupts instruction, but not the content of a political message outside the building. As for causing violence, the Confederate Battle Flag does not cause violence. Raising thugs to believe that thinking you are being disrespected justifies shooting someone causes violence. I would never fly that flag, but the boy was within his rights and should have been permitted to keep the flag. If its presence "causes" violence, that's what we have police and courts for, and those who react violently can learn to control themselves or spend their lives in prison. I'm tired of Americans being ordered to back down simply because some group of thugs is offended or might get violent. We should never, ever back down to union thugs, Islamic thugs, racist thugs, or any other thugs. They can deal with their hurt feelings or they can deal with the law (and off school property with armed citizens).

In the State of New York even the right of transit for a slave has been denied by her tribunals; and the States of Ohio and Iowa have refused to surrender to justice fugitives charged with murder, and with inciting servile insurrection in the State of Virginia. Thus the constituted compact has been deliberately broken and disregarded by the non-slaveholding States, and the consequence follows that South Carolina is released from her obligation.

That new creation needs to buried, being Southern cannot come to mean inferior in some manner, or racist, being Southern can not be outlawed and erased in some Orwellian fashion.

I was just thinking this. Fly the National and they wouldn’t have a clue.
My opine is that a racial coming together over modern southernness is long overdue. Rednecks come in many colors. Black families in the USA were actually doing better and better in spite of being hobbled from full commerce by Jim Crow. Nobody laments the passing of Jim Crow, but what can be lamented is what GWB called the soft bigotry of lowered expectations. Ill thought out (however well intended) welfare schemes rewarded black families for being disunited and the average black family went (pardon the pun) south.
It wasn't well-intentioned if the architects of the welfare state knew damn good and well what was going to happen.
As an Ass't Sec'y of Labor, Daniel Patrick Moynihan studied LBJ's proposed legislation and labelled it a "death warrant for the black family".
Nonetheless, LBJ decided that buying the black vote for the Democrat party was more important than any cultural problems it might create.
Well as an investment, LBJ sure got his money’s worth in votes. Black America virtually to a person turned its back on the GOP. There’s got to be something demeaning about that.
The purpose of public school is to teach, not fight people’s brawls for them, or permit a student to agitate other students.
From the point of view of the law, students, who to a great extent are their parent’s legal chattels, should be stripped of their civil rights on school grounds, by schools acting ‘In Loco Parentis’, in place of parents.
This means no freedom of speech, no right to bear arms, no limits to search and seizure, no right to sponsored religious expression or favoritism, etc. All of which can be parceled out by the school, or not, *solely* at their discretion, and the laws of that state.
Students can be required to wear uniforms, which by implication infers that they can be prohibited from wearing articles of clothing as well.
Admittedly this is an ideal. Some schools will be more generous, but others can be very limiting. But with this as ground rules, the federal courts should stay out of it.
Bottom line: students can express themselves freely off campus as much as their parents will permit, but on campus, they do as they are told.

Ansel, trust me when I tell you that the negative reaction most blacks have to the Confederate battle flag isn't something new. The roots of that reaction stretch back beyond living memory.
Like most black people, my family has origins in the Deep South. I didn't grow up there, but my parents and grand parents did. For them, that flag was a symbol of fear and oppression that was all too real and ever present in their lives.
In my own time, I've watched as that fear and oppression faded from view. All that remains of it, is a shadowy boogeyman that race baiters use to guilt whites into submission. I can't tell you how many times I've told other blacks that the 'struggle' is over, and that 'we' won a long, long time ago.
That said, up until I was middle aged, the sight of the Confederate battle flag still evoked an involuntary reaction in me. It took a lot of aging, experience, and education for me to overcome it. Today, the sight of that flag is actually comforting to me, believe it or not. Such are the benefits of being a conservative person who seeks to live with the truth.

The erasing of the South as a people is new, this Orwellian liberalism is new, this war against Southern heritage is new, this PC excuse making is new.
In true Orwellian fashion they want us to deny ourselves and the truth, how do you tell Southern people, that their South cannot be allowed among women and children or decent society?
That they are to be erased, and absorbed by the North in this new civil war that started only in recent decades by the usual left wing scum that searches out any and everything that doesn’t fit in with their vision of the future when America will all be good liberal, non-Christian, non-Southern, non-Texan New Yorkers with a little of LA tolerated.
I agree that many liberals detest southern culture; however, this is one of those limited times where children are essentially minimum security prisoners.
Before I referred to them as to a great extent chattel of their parents. There is a thriving industry, seldom talked about, where parents can essentially have their problematic children, by whatever standard the parents use, institutionalized with bogus medical diagnoses, until the insurance runs out, the parents want to stop paying, or the children turn 18. At which point they will be declared as “fine”, and kicked out.
It is brutal and nasty. While the children are there, they have no right to a Habeus Corpus hearing before a judge, or to seek emancipation, and with parental agreement, they can be drugged or otherwise coerced including confinement to padded cells.
The level of bitter, burning hate in both directions is impressive. But that such a thing is legal in the US gives some indication of how serious parental authority can be.
The kid might serve in a modern American military unit that traces it’s proud heritage to it’s Civil War exploits.
Well, I suppose the war against Southern heritage is new, as in, it really started at least 40 years ago.
During the civil rights era, all blacks were looking for, was fair and equitable treatment under our laws and our Constitution. They wanted an end to institutionalized racism and racial discrimination. I don't think any of them wanted to see the South burn again.
No, that was a goal of the godless Communists who infiltrated that movement, and they have pushed it to this very day.
Sometimes parents need to put their foot down and crack down on the left.
Those left wing unionized teachers and school administrators are clearly inculcating hate and racism where none should be, they need to be fixed, of course Wisconsin is voting on a little of that tonight.
