The media crusade to redefine marriage has taken a radical turn. Media outlets have put a spotlight on the narcissistic practice of “self-marriage,” in which a person marries himself or herself in a formal ceremony.
Do you get to consummate the marriage?
What happened to the “tradition” of ‘wife’ assuming ‘husband’s’ surname? How do the Gays handle that? Probably don’t. Just keep their own names.

I think the reception after one of these “weddings” would be a surreal blast. Photos of the bride — no — groom — okay, how about “broom”? — having a first dance with his/her new “wusband” or “hife”. Another of he broom feeding himself/herself a piece of cake. Another of one solitary hand with a wedding band. The broom tossing a bouquet and a garter to the crowd of unattached guests. One tradition that might go by the wayside is when everyone taps their water glasses with a spoon to induce a kiss. I guess the broom could use a mirror, though, like a real narcissist.

I think we also need a category for “Unilateral Marriage”: I, for instance, get to marry Barack Obama, for instance, regardless of his interest in a reciprocal arrangement.
