Chaos erupted in Shreveport today as police officers arrested state GOP delegates who support Ron Paul for the party's 2012 presidential nomination.
The dispute arose after the state party's central committee issued "supplemental rules" earlier this week concerning the delegate selection process. A press release from the Ron Paul campaign this afternoon referred to the 11th hour changes as "illegal rules."
After fights in the Rules Committee Friday, state party chairman opened the convention moving to pass the new rules, when the majority of delegates moved to elect a new convention chair. When Villere refused to yield the dais, the majority elected a new chair and turned their chairs. As this was happening, the Villere faction convinced the Shreveport Police Department to arrest some of the Paul delegates holding microphones for "trespassing."
During the forcible arrests, Shreveport police dislocated the hip of the gentlemen in the video here, identified by the Paul campaign as State Central Commiteeman Henry Herford Jr. of Franklin Parish.

Henry Herford Jr. was elected by an overwhelming majority as new convention chair. Mr. Villere, who had appointed himself the convention chairman, refused to yield. When delegates began turning their chairs around, Mr. Herford rose to call the convention to order. Mr. Villere then convinces police to forceably remove Mr. Herford, who is injured and sent to the hospital! Video at source. (My first post. Member since 2004!)
T the end of the video, it looks like the LEO is confiscating the video phone of the bystander.
“Sad what passes for “politics” these days.”
Seriously. I wish the process was like Draw Poker and we could throw these out and ask for a whole new hand!
GOPe thugs like the rule of law when it’s in their favor.
Our convention here in Maine was contentious, but not violent.
However, the level of animosity and hostility are palpable in the town and county meetings since.
For the most part, it's not about ideology on the part of the ‘old guard’, it's about losing power.
Not sure. Suspect the woman who wrote the article is a Dem who want to make the GOP Look Stupid. (often not that hard)
I have to admit I am seriously disturbed and mad a the GOP “leadership” for their antics leading up to this point. I am convinced that Mitt Romney is a terrible candidate for President. Not that he is a terrible person, but he is a gun grabbing Big Government Lib in GOP cover.
I hear a train whistle, we are being railroaded and I despise it.
I leave Wednesday for the TX GOP Convention in Ft. Worth. Pray to god that ours is not like this.
I admit I “did” vote for Ron Paul in the primary. Not a candidate of choice, but in my opinion better than Mitt Romney. (Yes, I know some of Ron Pauls positions are nuts)
The GOP looked pretty supid at the Shreveport convention without anyone’s help! Last minute rule change. Ugly power play. Clueless police officers deployed wrecklessly.
There is a Freeper that has a graphic of a bumper sticker that I must find and steal! It says “Vote Romney to stop Obama. Vote for a Conservative Senate to stop Romney!”
Have fun at the TX convention. Don’t forget to charge your cell phone in case you need to capture some video. ;)
One of the MANY reasons I will not only NOT vote for romney if he gets out of the convention with the nomination, I WILL work AGAINST him and the GOP-e and do EVERYTHING i possibly can to make sure that the GOP-e NEVER gets their socialist elected president.
These stupid F’ers in the GOP need a serious ass kicking.
Sounds like the LA GOP isn’t following their rules.
typical far left radical ron paul nutters trying to take over the LA GOP and the “ white people” you hate fought back !
these were radical far left paul nutters trying to take over the LA GOP and the GOP fought back.
The paul nutters are not used to that.
they have gotten away with pauhing around the meek old people and seized power !
they want to reek chaos at the gop convention by taking over gop delegates !
the radical PAUL crazies trying go seize power and got nailed !
you paul nutters think your going to destroy the gop convention.
They followed the rules, so the entrenched powers changed the rules and resorted to violence.
Nice friends you have there...
They followed the rules set forth by the State GOP. Sorry if that gets your knickers in a twist...
You sound like a Dem. “They beat us at our own game so it’s ok if we act like thugs to get our way...”
And people wonder why this Country is swirling the toilet bowl.
Just for the record I’m not a “Paul Nutter” or anything like it. I am just suprised by the GOPs complete lack of cohesion! This incident was ridiculous.
Charles Pierce wrote a nice little blog:
“The police were called in and Herford was hauled off to the hoosegow, allegedly with his artificial hip broken in the scuffle.... Meanwhile, state party leaders held their own convention in one corner of the room with about 30 delegates in attendance. Local media is reporting that the minority convention also elected a slate of delegates, although it is unlikely that the legitimacy of their slate will be recognized by the RNC.
I love the convention being held “in one corner of the room.” It’s so damned Louisiana.”

Working hard to elect Obama are we?
While I admire your anti socialist bent, you sound like a far left liberal nut!
Your post reads like it was lifted from the DU - Go Obama!
