Thousands of Communists and Neo-Nazis clash in streets of Hamburg

Clashes between neo-Nazi demonstrators and far-left counter-protesters overnight in the northern German port city of Hamburg left 38 police officers injured, police said Sunday.

Security forces were pelted with rocks, bottles and fireworks and responded by turning water canon and pepper spray on the rioting groups who turned out at a march by the far right.

At least two parked cars and a police cruiser were set ablaze.

Police, who deployed 4,400 officers to keep the peace between the two sides, took 63 demonstrators into custody and formally arrested another 17.

Around 3,500 people, mainly from the hard left, turned out to block a procession of about 700 right-wing skinheads, while more than 10,000 people attended a separate, peaceful rally against neo-Nazis in front of city hall.

They say that those who don't pay attention to history are doomed to repeat it, but I wasn't expecting it to be this literal.

Maybe they both can lose.

Certainly both groups are losers.

The both lost in the war between international and national socialist, ie WWII.

But 10s of millions of others were harmed, so that was not such a good outcome.

Green diarrhea socialists fight with brown diarrhea socialists, and police spray them both with fire hoses and pepper spray. But where were the right wingers they keep talking about in the article?

Boy, that Stalin sure was a sawed-off little runt, especially compared to the size of most Russian men. A elbow pile driver to the top of the head would have done the world a lot of good....

What exactly do German Communists and German Nazis have to fight about?

They both hate democracy and support a totalitarian police state.

They are both atheistic.

They both hate capitalism and support government command economies.

They are both militaristic and expansionist.

The Nazis are overtly nationalistic and racist.

The Communists are closet racists and nationalists.

The only plausible reason for conflict is a dispute about who gets to run the government and distribute the goodies.

Both are socialist.

Nazi Party

The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, abbreviated NSDAP), commonly known in English as the Nazi Party (from the German Nazi, abbreviated from the pronunciation of Nationalsozialist[5]), was a political party in Germany between 1919 and 1945. It was known as the German Workers' Party (DAP) prior to a change of name in 1920.

National Health Care: Medicine in Germany 1918-1945 [Nazi health care]
Does the Modern Bureaucratization of Medicine Risk a Return to the Horrors of National Socialist Medicine?

by Marc S. Micozzi M.D.

Today we are concerned about issues such as doctor-assisted suicide, abortion, the use of fetal tissue, genetic screening, birth control and sterilization, health-care rationing and the ethics of medical research on animals and humans. These subjects are major challenges in both ethics and economics at the end of the twentieth century. But at the beginning of the twentieth century the desire to create a more scientific medical practice and research had already raised the issues of euthanasia, eugenics, and medical experimentation on human subjects. In addition, the increasing involvement of the German government in medical care and funding medical research established the government-medical complex that the National Socialists later used to execute their extermination policies. ..."

NYT Writer Corrects Record: Pete Seeger 'Only' 40 Years Late in Denouncing Stalin
By P.J. Gladnick
2007-09-02

The New York Times has now corrected [1] a "smear" about Pete Seeger being 50 years too late in denouncing Stalin. Thanks to the intrepid research of Times reporter Daniel J. Wakin, the record has now been set straight. Pete Seeger was only about 40 years too late in criticizing Stalin.

They label anyone who has extreme nationalistic tendencies as far right. The European right wing is not the same as the American right.

One might think that the neo-nazis and the American right or conservatives both oppose the big government, but that isn’t even true. Neo-nazis would love a big, powerful government, as long as they were running it.

A lot of the same forces that were present in 1930 are present again, and the same type of people are looking for scapegoats and power.

You’re right.

As you know, during World War II, the Soviets never cheered for Communism/the USSR. It was always about defending “Mother Russia”.

AFP is Agence Francais? At least they use the term “far left”. Almost always it’s “progressives” or “leftists” in the media no matter how extreme or violent they are.
