Gov. Jerry Brown plans to fast-track high-speed rail through courts
San Jose Mercury News ^ | June 2, 2012 | By Mike Rosenberg

Gov. Jerry Brown is proposing to fast-track California's $69 billion high-speed rail project by easing legal scrutiny under the state's landmark environmental law, this newspaper learned Friday.

The proposal, which the Legislature would have to approve this month as part of launching the state's biggest-ever construction project, does not change the California Environmental Quality Act. But Brown's plan, while angering environmentalists, would have two major consequences.

First, it virtually takes away the final bullet in the chamber that project opponents were hoping to use to kill high-speed rail: a court-ordered injunction halting construction.

Second, the proposal adds to a growing number of large-scale projects that Brown and former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger have tried to exempt from the most intense environmental legal scrutiny by arguing that California needs to create jobs quickly.

"Okay, let me get this straight. Gov Brown is going to use tax payer money to take the tax payer funded Cal-EPA to court over the tax payer funded high speed train?"

No. It's a step to reduce the time spent in court.

There is an initiative being prepared for the November ballot to cancel the high speed rail project. Hopefully this will all be moot then.

Of course he does. Spend like there’s no tomorrow. It makes him and his Lib supporters feel good and he’s old enough that he’ll be dead when the whole Ponzi Scheme collapses and the next generation has to pick up the pieces.

It would seem that the stick used by greens and dims to derail (pun intended) productive business projects is in danger of being used against this boondoggle. Can’t have that can we. So we’ll just tweak the law a bit to favor us.

IIRC...

- - 100 billion (pre-temporary-downward revision for election season)

- - Out-of-state prime (GE)

- - Off-shore designers (china)

- - Not needed (or wanted), who in his or her right mind would pay $100s to travel between the thriving metropolises of Merced to Bakersfield in twice the time (considering parking, ticketing, security, baggage handling a-la-airlines, and of course, the train will ALWAYS BE LATE, ALWAYS, ALWAYS!

- - The first leg, Merced to Bakersfield is scheduled for 2017, hah, it's 2020 or later. Unions = construction delays, ALWAYS.

- - What the Keynesians fail to realize is that taking 100 B from the productive sector of the California economy is so toxic to the economic climate, that it could be extraordinarily difficult to recover.

- - Net employment will be much less, businesses and taxpayers will out-migrate, and financial chaos is a possibility.

I hope you don’t like to eat because much of the fresh produce you eat comes from California. If California dies, so does a major part of the food supply.

I believe when people say they want Calif to die, they mean the State government. Everywhere, government is the enemy of Freedom.

Dear environmentalists: Old Jer knows that not one single passenger will ride this train. It’s all about putting taxpayer money into Democrat’s pockets.

“I hear that train a comin’
It’s rollin’ money to me
My bank account’s gettin’ bigger
Thanks to good old Jerry
California may be broke
But taxpayer money’s buildin’ this rail
The money’s goin’ to Democrats
And Jerry ought to be in jail.”

THE TAXPAYER’S BLUES - Jerry Brown

Yep - Merced to Bakersfield, approximately 165 miles (per Mapquest). About a two and a half hour drive.

We also grow food in Mississippi and we have a Sea Food Industry. I did not say I despised Californians... I despise the STATE GOVERNMENT. One thing you had better get into your mind... your state is going to fail. The majority of your voters keep electing cancerous evildoers and if that does not kill off your government... mexico is going to take your state by force.

I like Californians... especially Conservative Californians... but your state government is rotten.

Plus the train line ends in Sacramento so the communist Gov’t drones can hop on their communist trains to go home or to Disneyland.

Hey brother... I agree... but California is the gold standard for American Communism. We have thad cochran... a progressive republican... and we have Roger Wicker... a party hack republican... and we have a new faux TEA Party congressman named Palazzo... he was co-opted by the gop/e within 10 minutes of his arrival in DC in January 2011. We will purge these guys before all is said and done... but we do have our own cancer cells. At least our new Governor has been very good so far.

Most all of the produce over here is not from California & I know none of it from China - Fortunately California isn’t needed to feed America - food can be grown virtually anywhere with a bit of preparation.
Now maybe it is absolutely needed to feed California but thats another story

They are both dialed in to the Chinese corruption machine.

This is like a fantasy world, except it's REALLY happening.

God help us all.

“Good... I despise californicate and the sooner it goes absolutely broke and in default... the sooner we can kill off the progressive cancer that is killing the rest of America... if it is not too late.”

As President Reagan would say, “there he goes again!” So to hear you tell it, ALL the liberals are in California, Right? What a maroon! Yeah, there are a lot of them here, mostly in the cities, probably just like wherever you live. Just a suggestion, maybe you should be hoping that us Conservatives that live here in CA ultimately prevail so the crap here doesn’t get on you too! Because we were “invaded by the Liberals from the NE a couple of generations ago, and once they take a crap where they land, they move on, just like termites! Just saying.

Chinese trains on California tracks

The Bay Area Council is a business-sponsored organization comprising 275 large companies in Los Angeles and the Silicon Valley in California.

The agreement was inked during California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's visit to China. "We look to China to build our high-speed rail, to be part of the bidding process that we are going to go through," Schwarzenegger was quoted by Reuters on Monday in a speech made in Shanghai.

"Many countries will be bidding to build our high-speed rail, (and we plan) also to look for financing from China," Schwarzenegger said.

“As President Reagan would say, “there he goes again!” So to hear you tell it, ALL the liberals are in California, Right?”

Wrong... and no one could extrapolate that idea from anything that I said in this thread. Jim Robinson lives in California and he is one of this Nation's most staunch Conservatives. He is on a first name basis with Palin!

“What a maroon! Yeah, there are a lot of them here, mostly in the cities, probably just like wherever you live.”

I live in Mississippi... one of the most Conservative States in the union. We have liberals too... not many but we have them. I despise them too. Our State government is not liberal... it has been but we have worked hard to change that and we have a fairly Conservative State government and a decent governor... after libtard fat ass haley (pardongate) barbour... a corporatist if there ever was one.

“Just a suggestion, maybe you should be hoping that us Conservatives that live here in CA ultimately prevail so the crap here doesn’t get on you too!”

You are delusional dude... your State is dead meat. You cannot return to solvency... you can't make gains in your State. Each election entrenches the communist roots deeper into the living Flesh of your one GREAT STATE. You are but one or two generations away from reconquesta. Your state elected jerry moonbeam hippie dog dope head brown... for a second time! I know that no Conservative voted for him... and that paints the picture of California today. There are just not enough Conservatives left to make any significant difference.

“Because we were “invaded by the Liberals from the NE a couple of generations ago, and once they take a crap where they land, they move on, just like termites! Just saying.”

I see no evidence of any hope for California. All that I see are dims winning more and more positions of power... I see nothing in any sector in California that is doing anything but sliding further to the left. I do not despise Californians... I care about all Conservatives in that State... but your government and your government's mindset... I despise that to the power of ten. California infects the rest of the country with its communist agenda... from school books to autos.

If you take the time to read ALL of my posts on this thread then you will see that you have attacked me wrongly... unless you actually think that you can rationalize your States government and the cancer that has already caused it lethal damage.

Used to work in Memphis, been to MIssissippi many times. It’s the one state in the union that’s worse overall than is California. Actually had an employee who had a brother incarcerated in Parchment Prison ( you know the place where they attach the leads from an old telephone magneto to a prisoner’s genitals and “ring them up” to gain compliance). It’s simply amazing that someone who calls MS home, has the temerity to tell us all about how things are going to turn out here in California. Talk about delusional! You live in the home of the double wide and the outdoor john! At least we still live in decent homes with running water and indoor plumbing. You don’t know squat about California, what’s really going on here, and how we live.
