The musician known as "The Boss" touched on a nerve of widespread discontent as he addressed the global economic crisis in front of 58,000 people at the German capital's Olympic Stadium.

Speaking in German, he said: "In America, a lot of people have lost their jobs. But also in Europe and in Berlin, times are tough. This song is for all those who are struggling."

The 62-year-old singer then introduced "Jack of All Trades," a withering attack on bankers that includes the lyrics: "The banker man grows fat, working man grows thin."

In "Death to My Hometown", he sang about the "greedy thieves and robber barons" who "destroyed our families, factories and they took our homes". Springsteen's populist songs have a strong blue collar following in America and his latest album "Wrecking Ball," released in March, is an angry indictment of Wall Street and those responsible for the financial crisis...

Hey Brucie baby, you really need to read up on the French Revolution. After they guillotined the king & aristocrats (bankers & financiers” ??), they came after anyone they were jealous of. “J’accuse” was very popular during The Reign of Terror, when a simple rumor was enough to lose ones’ head.

Et tu, Bruce? (or Michael Moore, Ted Turner, John Kerry et al.)

Same guy who got rich singing:

Poor man wanna be rich,
rich man wanna be king

I used to really like him in his early days. Sometime in the 90’s he started getting political. He was finished for me completely when he came out with 41 shots, the song about the New York cops who were charged with the shooting of Amadou Diallou, a tragic case where the guy fit the description of a violent felon and did not immediately respond to the police commands to show hands. They were acquitted, but Bruce joined the rabble screaming for the cops’ blood with that song.

Since those days, he’s been campaigning for Dem candidates and inserting political rants into his songs and concert speeches. On top of that, he really hasn’t written a decent song in years. Some of you who never liked him will crack wise, but his early stuff was good, hard pumping rock, poetic, gritty lyrics, soulful ballads and that awesome sax.

Probably not much of an accident for saying these thing in Berlin. Fascists, Socialists and Communists always need an unpopular minority to blame. They need somebody to send to “work” or “re-education” camps to prove they are working on a “solution”. Always have, always will. Springsteen is just auditioning for a role as the future Lord Haw-Haw.

The Boss’s career is a study in bombast.

I enjoyed the early stuff...and quit completely after the “41 Shots” crap. I don’t take political advice from a man with a 10th-grade education.

He should be glad and grateful to live in a country that allows him to be successful in spite of his lack of education. He could be actually working in a dead-end, manual job...like the ones he sings about.

I have *ALWAYS* hated Brucey Brainstrain’s “music”.

It is pompous, overstated, affectacious, and loud in all the wrong places, like everywhere.

Brucey always struck me as a pampered little boy who wanted to look tough.

Basically, he’s a creep.

Agree with your assessment. Springsteen's politics are typically mindless and hypocritical...which, perhaps would be slightly more forgivable if he had produced a single decent album since 1982. To my ears, Nebraska was the last one that consistently combined musical originality with poetry, heart or soul.

As to his liberal hypocrisy, I suppose any true "working man" like him has to find some little corrugated tin shack in which to hole up and brave the elements...:

And add the horses he owns on his farm that pays very little property tax due to NJ law. His daughter is a top ranked equastrian. Everybody knows that steeplechase is the sport of the working class.

In high school I bought his album that had “Born to Run” on it. I played it many times. Never bought any of his other stuff.

As far as I’m concerned, I thank him for the enjoyment I had in my teens listening to that album, but now, he’s just an old man who never wised up.

C.E.O. -the voice of the elite, for the elite.

This rare clip is from one of CEO's earliest gigs in 1975, Kenya. 15 000 CEO's were flewn in from all around the world by the band, which is known not for selling tickets but for paying CEO's for attending the gigs. The ones that won't come, will be shot.

I always like “Tunnel of Love”. Other than that I always thought that he belonged on a “grossly over rated” list of rock stars.

He was on a John F’n Kerry fundraising tour with the Dixie Chicks in ‘04 shooting his mouth off about Bush and the “illegal war in Iraq”.

Same sh*t, differant day. This sonofabitch is never happy is he?
