School Holds Politically Correct Prom

The principal of a Connecticut high school is defending her decision to end the longtime tradition of allowing students to vote for a prom king and queen over fears that the winners might be bullied.

But students at Kaynor Tech High School in Waterbury, Conn. have accused Principal Lisa Hylwa of bowing to political correctness.

In the past, the prom court was selected by a student vote. But Hylwa said she wanted to keep drama out of the prom and stop bullying. Instead, students who attended prom were invited to put their names in a box and the court was selected randomly.

“A lot of kids just think it’s unfair because you know, it’s a prom tradition,” student Jennifer Buonocore told television station WTNH. The station reported that it was flooded with comments from students wondering why the tradition was changed.

The principal said that all the students deserve an opportunity to participate as prom king and queen.

Maybe all the teachers and staff can put their names in a box, and we can randomly draw one out to see who will be next year’s principal.

Think they should put names in a box to see who the next superintendent will be.

This is beyond ridiculous and borders on insanity.

Ms. Hawly wouldn’t be so bad if she could only spell her name right. LOL

I’ll bet you anything bullying has nothing to do with this. Perhaps this teacher is a lesbian which causes her to hate the ‘King & Queen’ tradition.

That IS a major problem — bullying — regarding the prom king and queen.

The Principal could be setting herself up for a major embarrassment, too.

With a bit of creativity, the attendees could agree to put in a couple of fake silly names. Then, when drawn, it would show up how silly the prinpal’s idea turns out to be.

Couldn’t have been all that politically correct if they recognized the gender of the students.

My guess is she never was even asked to go to her prom and it has been eating away at her for decades.

Their position, one year from now:

See, why should male students be limited to being king and females limited to queen? Any student should be able apply for either position.

How is the world would voting for Prom King/Queen be anymore conductive to “bullying” than pulling names out of a hat. I would think it would be to the contrary.

Is that because the gays feel left out, or because last year they picked two males as King and Queen and they got bullied?

"The principal said that all the students deserve an opportunity to participate as prom king and queen."

There it is. Nothing to do with bullying except for what she thinks is going on with the ones NOT being elected--like her 40 years ago (she's 56). How can all the students be king and queen?
