Police officers are trained manipulators. They take classes to learn how to read people’s body language and how to ask open-ended and innocent-sounding questions in order to surreptitiously obtain information they can use against you.
They also have a knowledge of the laws that you don’t possess — and laws differ from State to State, and even from one jurisdiction in a State to another. Police have also been known to invent “laws,” place “evidence” that can be linked to you and twist your words into meaning something you did not intend.

Police seem to have shifted from protecting good citizens from bad guys to all citizens as bad to varying degrees and bad guys as something to be treated gingerly in case of lawsuit.
So the law abiding are treated as probably guilty of something and always cash cows, while the truly lousy, crime ridden areas are mostly left alone unless it disturbs the peace of “civil” areas.
The police, perhaps, are now contemptuous of and distrustful of the taxpayers while avoiding or protecting the persistently criminal.
Never forget: sheepdogs aren’t there to protect the sheep, they’re there to keep them from getting out of line.
Feelings are hard to debate.
However, just for posterity's sake- Communities with practically no law enforcement in many places are clean and safe, while others where you have law enforcement on every street corner and camera's everywhere, are unsafe. May it be when comparing nations, rural to urban, or even within the urban area's, the real cause and indicators are the culture (or lack thereof) of the people present within these areas. Your logic is the same reasoning that makes some think that less guns equates to less crime. Your argument is simply more cops equals less crime. Simple answers that don't address the real cause nor fix anything. If you want to see this in action: look at the vast waves of rape, robberies and murder in New Orleans and compare that to Fukushima where after an earthquake, tsunami and nuclear melt down you had a distinct lack of crime or even disorder and chaos. In Alaska, where I lived for many years, there are small towns with little to no law enforcement, yet there is practically no crime, how can that be? Cops simply temporarily keep a boot on the neck of savages, but they don't fix the problems causing this decay nor will they be there in disaster when they are confronted with their own families survival (Hence New Orleans). The rise of secularism and moral relativism, lack of cultural and national identity, lack of positive role models, broken families, lack of true accountability need addressed and police isn't going to do that.
Just like a cop isn't going to fix it, a government hand out is ineffective at really fixing the cultural issues that underlie. But back to the point. Cops in America are glorified meter-maids with an attitude, they have a presumption of guilt and use no discretion when enforcing the law. Under every joke, stereotype or cliche there is usually a thread of truth woven in that most people can identify with, otherwise it wouldn't be funny. US Cops have rightly earned that image.
Prisons are very badly run, in fact, criminally run. One prisoner should have no AUTHORITY over another prisoner. The establishment of a system in which the stronger prisoners have authority over the weaker is a crime against humanity, in my opinion, and the perpetrators of that system should all be in prison themselves.
A system of default solitary confinement, where good behavior earns a prisoner time outside his/her cell, is the only way to run a prison. Anything else puts authority into the hands of the stronger prisoners.
As for flogging, yes. Put flogging into the mix. I’m all for adding flogging as a punishment option.
Everything and everyone. Cops are paid to assume the rest of us are the enemy, or will become the enemy.
I appreciate cops and what they do, but for some bad apples it’s all about “clearance”.
They don’t care who gets convicted, as long as somebody gets convicted.
So yeah, the very first word you ever say to the cops is “lawyer”.
That's understandable because without and deviants, there would be no need for police. My feeling is a lot of what cops do today is designed to propogate the need for (more) cops. They exist for the benefit of themselves.
My department spends an inordinate amount of time and money harassing parents trying to pick their kids up at school. They do this at least once a month at each of the three schools my children attend. I think we need fewer cops if they can’t find something better to do.
Where were these incidents and what were the circumstances?

I am remembering the huge assed women cops pushing carts through stores, and civilians bitching that the cops be takin' all the good stuff...........

It may reduce your chances.
Anyone can be arrested at any time. All they need is suspicion, or a desire to arrest you/screw with you.
You certainly lower your chances of arrest by obeying the law, but it won’t necessarily protect you.
Now tell me, do you know all the laws? There is no way on earth. There are too many laws to keep track of. I would bet that every one of us violates some law or other multiple times per week and don’t even realize it.
The "unholster your weapon and place it on the ground" it one police command I would never obey. :) Self preservation trumps obediance.

Just for *sh!ts & giggles* the state cops pad their pensions by working overtime gigs just B4 they retire. Don't get me started on their obscene perks].
Especially greedy since this state is broke. And some people still wonder why they don't get any respect....that/s b/c they don't deserve any.

Imagine a tiny [[third world] village with no electricity, a single common well for the inhabitants. A heinous crime takes place....an event we would call a capital felony here; The village elders meet, decide immediately to take action and the perps are hung by their necks until dead.
No lawyer, no appeal, no court preparation of brief, no far in the future court date. We might think it is brutal and uncivilized.
Done. Hang. Shovel and shut up. Adults were in charge.
In an ideal world I would agree with you. But in this one?
What about an eighty year old couple - husband with cancer - are they able to 'take care of themselves'? Or a young mother with husband overseas - protecting the country - can she be expected to defend her young children without the ability to call 911?
Thugs would hunt out the weak and innocent and destroy them. We both know that's true.
In my neighborhood every home but three have security systems that charge monthly fees... We have crime watch. We don't get the police protection we pay for because the police are in minority neighborhoods... essentially babysitting...
I'd like homes to be charged for police protection. We pay our own water bills - not some city wide 'water average'. It should be the same for police usage. If a home uses police service, they pay more - tacked onto the electric bill. If they use ZERO police usage, they're NOT charged. Many advantages to the system...
