Bob Schieffer Laughs Out Loud After Playing Video of Obama Bragging About His Accomplishments

CBS's Bob Schieffer certainly wasn't in an Obama-loving mood Sunday.

CBS's Bob Schieffer certainly wasn't in an Obama-loving mood Sunday.

Having asked the President's senior campaign adviser "Whatever happened to hope and change" early in the program, the Face the Nation host in a subsequent segment laughed out loud after playing a clip of Obama bragging about his accomplishments on 60 Minutes last year (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MRC TV video player

BOB SCHIEFFER, HOST: I want to play a little something for you. I think one of the lessons that probably all of us recognize is that if you-- I've wrote a book once about Ronald Reagan it came out the month that he was-- that George Bush was inaugurated. The book, I-- I think, everything in the book is accurate, but it is not entirely true, because we didn't know at that time that the Soviet Union was going to fall in. I don't give credit-- Reagan credit, total credit for that but certainly his policies had a part in it. I think you really run a risk when you start trying to judge a presidency--

MICHAEL DUFFY, TIME MAGAZINE: Too soon.

BOB SCHIEFFER: --too soon. I want to run this. This is what Barack Obama last December told Steve Kroft of 60 MINUTES. I want to get your reaction to it.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any President, with the possible exceptions of Johnson, FDR and Lincoln, but, you know, just in terms of what we've got and done in modern history.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BOB SCHIEFFER: So [laughs] as incumbent Presidents often do they give themselves good reviews. Can anyone say even in the middle of a presidency this is going to be a successful or an unsuccessful presidency?

Yeah, there were plenty of Americans who thought this was pretty funny when it first aired last December.

What wasn't funny was how the clip Schieffer played Sunday wasn't included in the actual 60 Minutes broadcast.

As NewsBusters reported at the time, Obama's boastful remarks were only available at the CBS website.

Maybe it's because a lot of people at CBS besides Schieffer thought they were too hysterical to share with the television public.

Given Schieffer's on-air reaction almost six months later, can you blame them?

BTW, you clearly do not understand how 'alternative media' actually functions. The MSM supplies the content and the big Internet corporations do the distribution.

Google, Yahoo, Twitter, and Facebook are the CBS, NBC, CNN, and ABC of today. Note how all those companies are leftist surrogates. How did that happen? The MSM managed the buzz at their inceptions.

This is why it is profitable to own a media company, not in selling advertising, but in influencing markets, making sure their friends are on the right side of the publicity curve at exactly the right time.

I haven’t watched anything that has Zero’s face in it since he ran for the White Hut. He and his Black Widow have nothing to say that I want to hear, and I hate looking at film clips that show their arrogance when it comes to America.

They aren’t fooling anyone but themselves. Their hopey-changy stuff is melting into their shoes.

Clearly I do understand, it is you who do not understand what I said.

DRUDGE & Limbaugh all by themselves are attended by millions upon millions of people DAILY. There was no Drudge as we know it before 1997, it being a web subscriber based email service.

We have also seen the explosion of Conservative talk radio led by the huge success of Limbaugh. The message gets out just fine without the networks and their owned subsidiaries.

Why do you suppose the Left is so desperate to silence Limbaugh and get the FCC to pull the broadcast lic of FNC?

Freedom begets freedom, my friend and once people got a taste of the freedom of communication they enjoy today thru email, cell phones, blogs, tweets etc any attempt to curtail this will result in massive uprisings and uncontrollable violence. It is this method of communication which goes a along way towards shining the light of truth on the Cockroach nest which is today’s democrat Party.

Drudge and Limbaugh are distribution, not content. Even in that latter regard, they are minuscule compared to the combined forces I cited. Both spend virtually their entire pages and airtime discussing content initiated in the MSM, which is exactly what I said. Hence, you still have no clue.

As to their supposed influence, how'd that "Operation Chaos" work out for ya?

We have also seen the explosion of Conservative talk radio led by the huge success of Limbaugh. The message gets out just fine without the networks and their owned subsidiaries.

Last I checked, AM radio was not alternative media.

Why do you suppose the Left is so desperate to silence Limbaugh and get the FCC to pull the broadcast lic of FNC?

The left brooks NO breach of their otherwise perfect monopoly on public information, from kindergarten, to colleges, to advertising. They would try to shut Rush down if he had an audience of one million.

Freedom begets freedom, my friend and once people got a taste of the freedom of communication they enjoy today thru email, cell phones, blogs, tweets etc any attempt to curtail this will result in massive uprisings and uncontrollable violence.

Yawn. Even the Rodney King riots were controlled. Without communications channels, no uprising will amount to squat. Without logistical support, even if they had communications they would collapse before long.

It is this method of communication which goes a along way towards shining the light of truth on the Cockroach nest which is today’s democrat Party.

As one who has been doing the basic research to power that light on FR for over a decade, you have a lot to learn, newbie.

Why, Gorby, of course! That’s what an ignorant lib friend of mine says and that RR was already “losing it” mentally by then.

Makes me so mad, but he (like all libs) is sure he knows more than any of us “brainwashed right-wingers”.

At Schieffer’s age and mental condition, I would put the laugh up to GAS!

I remember a Russian standing on the stage of a Broadway theater and telling the audience (for some event I can’t remember; maybe I. B. Singer was supposed to speak and couldn’t make it): You beat us in computers.

Also, the father of a famous conservative showed me the figures about the outspending, at CPAC. He walked right up to the FR booth and showed me the proof. Someone must have told him I wasn’t totally convinced. I wasn’t, but after that, I was. Thank you, fellow freeper, whoever that was.

I’m sure it was many factors, including the wars of containment that Kissinger so favored. Even if history says we lost. We kept them busy and spending. At great cost, but we did.

So, they are in a relaxed mood because their great leader Soreass has proclaimed that if the race is between Romney and Obamalamadingdong, “It makes not so much difference.” Is that about right?

unfortunately the laughter from the MSM is because Obama is not going far enough and they are trying to shame him into being the full fledged socialist dictator they were promised

Obama HAS been “successful” in that he oversaw the takeover of the U.S. health care system by the federal government, he solidified the practice of “stimulatory” spending, the nationalized a major automobile company, and has added liberals to SCOTUS.

There has been so far ZERO action to reverse this. We shall see.

Same for me. Once ObaMao’s lips start moving, even if I have the remote, it still causes a major spike in my Beer expense.
