The 96th running of the Indy 500 coming up shortly on ABC.
Mr G and I have been fans of Rahal since he was a driver. We saw him at a can-am race at Watson Glen 30 ish years ago. His driving was so precise.... he would hit the turn at exactly the same spot every single time. We started following him, and it turned out he had his team headquarters about 1/2 mile from our office.
my bad- Conway’s accident was on the front straight two years ago but almost same exact type crash as he launched into the fence out of the turn...
Those in car cams are amazing! That tire bouncing along the road was a butt clencher!
I am glad that loose tire did not get punted into the stands!
It was really bookin’ along! If it had hit anything...wow!
It was also scary watching the right wheel on Power’s car tearing off.
Hunter Reay having prblems with the back...pitting again.
The teathers don’t seem to be strong enough to keep the wheels attached.
Andretti having huge problems....back end very squirrelly...
First off I won’t watch the Monte Carlo, the Indy or the 600 live, all are recording so I can hop the commercials.
But this year I noticed absolutely no Indy coverage on ESPN or SPEED channels, years before they would show the previous races every night culminating just before race day, I loved watching the early 80’s races.
And then ABC had nothing about the quals or carb day, zilch.
Is indy becoming a lost Great American Pastime?
Is their something behind the scenes to belittle the Indy 500?
The cars look ridiculous but the mufflers come on. I’ve been to a lot of races.
This used to be a good American series. Now it’s way too PC Toyota, Honda, IRL, CART, Popoff valves.
espn classic has shown 90% of the races from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s & 2000’s all week as they did last year...
Maybe they did but I searched all week long and never saw any listings on my Dishnetwork program guide.
Ya don’t need mufflers if ya have turbos.....
Whoops!
I’m thinking, fenders, canopy, windshield wipers, turn signals, air bags, electric propulsion, 55 MPH speed limit, all entrants must be able to compete, no discriminatory “qualifying”.
Must be UAW assembled!
I thought I saw some lead up coverage on ESPN but didn’t watch. And yes, Indy, and a lot of other racing is another piece of America lost.
One interesting thing I did notice was bicycle racing coverage this year! I usually follow the TdF, but this year there were several races on my cable including the Tour de California.
More PC I guess!
LOL.. I hear ya..
All I know for sure is I went to the IMS website a few days ago.. dang near didn’t make it out of there, much less find what I was looking for.. which I did eventuall, sort of..
It would seem they hold the licensing quite tightly in the Hulman family, much as the FRance family and nascar
It’s a fuel mileage race.. darn..
30 lead changes, a new record
not anymore.....Carpenter- the only American with a chance to win....SH!T...
We are hostages to advertisers, especially lately with the spat between Disgnetwork and its new Hopper receiver that will “hop” past all the commercials if you record.
I see a battle royale in the future upon the horizon. Myself I built a mod to my remote, it has a programmable timer, when I watch any of my recordings I find out the average length of all the commercial intervals, mostly its about 4 minutes unless its CBS which can go 6 minutes.
So I hit this button and it jumps exactly whatever time I want like 4 minutes and 5 seconds, and I can skip all the commercials.
Ed Carpenter spins her around and wheww.. nobody hits him and he doesn’t hit the wal..
Everyone will likely pit, so forget the fuel mileage
