Miami Beach will be flooded with visitors this Memorial Day Weekend as part of the 13th annual Urban Beach Week, which is dubbed the largest Urban festival in the world.
Due to the large number of people expected, upwards of 300,000 to 350,000 people, Miami Beach police are implementing some new procedures to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike.

One of our fifth grade thugs (from Detroit) told his teacher that he was flying with his mother and brothers and sisters to Miami this weekend. We thought it was sort of odd. Now it makes sense.
Looks like Miami will be getting a lot of visiting EBT cards.
Glad it's a few thousand miles away now. (C)rap music is a diseased condition more than a music genre. This festival is representative of a culture worthy only of a petri dish. One that embraces the darkest, most dismal aspects of urban society (if it can be labeled as such.)
For those inclined to think "racist", it's no such thing, look at my select musical interests on my page. It's everything to do with a self destructive cultural trend that will eventually lead to the self destruction of anyone who embraces it.
It's representative of the worst of our American society. It doesn't need to be celebrated, it needs to be rehabilitated.
"Evil can never overcome those who have the faith to pray and say AMEN...when you do only GOOD"
There’s going to be a lot of Justice for Trayvon. Best not be seen being white around those parts.
This is a potential powder keg this weekend. I am all but certain we are going to see some type of race riots this summer. This is the perfect environment to kick off the summer!
You get more than three of them together there is going to be a fight. Now multiply that by 100k.
The overtime expenditure on the police department is going to be huge, and I imagine public works is going to be throwing in some overtime as well.
I feel for you SoFlo.
Are bookies taking bets on the number of shootings, stabbings, rapes, that will take place there?
The bulk of the article was devoted to outlining the restrictions on citizens the police are imposing for the weekend.
You must show proof of residency to access public streets.
How is everyone okay with this?
I don’t care what your crime problem is — you don’t get to adopt sweeping ad hoc laws (with no legislative authority) that apply to all citizens who aren’t committing crimes.
This is fascism in an American city. There’s no other word for it.
I'd bet my house the residents of the areas overrun by the attendees of this event have no problem with it.
I'm guessing you don't have any direct experience with "Black Spring Break?"
Get back to us when you do.
Because the courts told them they had no problem with it.
Believe me, the black leadership of Atlanta had to dragged kicking and screaming into finally doing something about it.
The right to freely move about without “papers” (e.g. proof of residency) is just as important as the right to bear arms.
People who surrender their rights for some notion of “security” are just making bricks for their own prison.
You might want to educate yourself about these events so you don't look so ignorant.
By my third one, I closed my business for the weekend and left town. Finally convicted felon mayor Bill Campbell was forced to crack down on his brothers and tell them they weren't welcome in ATL anymore.
I know as much about “these events” as you do.
I’ve also experienced people trying to close off public streets that I pay for to “residents only.”
What you don’t seem to get is that everyone gets caught in that net. You’re not just denying access to criminals; you’re convicting me of a crime that isn’t — going where I want to go — and you’re doing it without due process.
This is how fascism takes hold — people don’t realize the sword cuts both ways, and any law you embrace can just as easily be used against you.
Social unrest is best dealt with by enforcing existing laws against rioting, theft, drunkenness, etc. Not building a wall to keep everyone out.
I don't believe you do. Otherwise you wouldn't be talking about how a few hundred cops are supposed to police an invading army of 300,000. I'm sure you'd be fine with 300,000 people coming to your NEIGHBORHOOD, parking their cars in the street, and having a weekend-long street party/bacchanalia/riot/sexual assault.
You'd be whining like a little girl for somebody to do something.
LOL, if you think the legitimate authorities protecting public order is "fascism," you're an idiot.
Conservatives don't believe in anarchy.
Maybe you're on the wrong site?
It should not be on our streets, its just devastating, Tapia said of the street party. Theres looting. I took pictures of dozens of cars windows that have been bashed in. There have been sexual acts in the street. Ive seen women get groped and they just keep walking; there is nothing they can do.
We have to be serious, Tapia continued. Due to the violence and the hoodlumness to this event, it tarnishes the citys image. Ive seen tourists say they will never come back.
And mind you, this is what occurred AFTER all the "fascist" restrictions you were whining about.
Grow up.
“And mind you, this is what occurred AFTER all the “fascist” restrictions you were whining about.”
So restricting access to the public streets made no difference in controlling the carnage.
Um, Q.E.D.
(Better look that one up.)
P.S. It means I win.
