Guitar master and singer Doc Watson was listed in critical condition Thursday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a fall at his home in Deep Gap earlier this week.
Watson's daughter, Nancy, said in a telephone interview that Watson fell Monday.
She said he didn't break any bones but that he's "real sick."

An American Treasure
He is from Jamul here in East San Diego County.
Thanks.
I almost bought 9.5 acres in Jamul in the 80s (kicking myself in the arse)
I always wanted to jump a train when I was a kid, and I did for a mile or two.
Now I’m 2500 miles down the line and the trains aint running LoL
I’ll say it one more time.
Doc Watson is a national Treasure.
He hit every aspect of humanity and the nation.
I’d like to see Lady Gaga do that LOL
He’s a keeper.
I went up the hill the first day I was allowed and fully expected to see the house gone. To my surprise it was still there but the many belongings that had been in the yard were all gone. I investigated further and the back door had been kicked in. I thought, how screwed up is that? People evacuate because of a fire and are victimized by a thief! I entered the back door to discover all the belongings inside and a note from Cal Fire apologizing for the damage they did to the door. Those guys rock!

Doc Watson - Moody River
I saw Doc for the first time at Winfield, KS in the late 70s. He came out, holding his guitar in front of himself and hanging on to Merle. The gal I had with me laughed and said Oh look, he’s acting blind! The crowd around us groaned.
My sister gave me a Doc Watson instruction book and I managed to learn to flatpick a few of his songs note for note. When I compared them to his recordings, he added a bunch of extra notes with his secret third hand he must have. I got good enough to impress other people but never impressed myself, knowing how Doc did it.
I loved his part in O Brother Where Art Thou, tossing the first hunk of fruit at the racist politician. Made a good shot, too.
