A woman yesterday took command of a frontline warship for the first time in the Navys 500-year history.
Commander Sarah West, 40, is now in sole control of HMS Portland, a Type 23 frigate and its mostly male crew of 185.

Knew a dyke hospital WAC in RVN.
Tough as nails, a great shot, brown belt, NRA member, and seemingly on permanent PMS.
Would have LRRPed with her anytime.

Just think, a Lesbo Captain on an all male ship. LOL
Never mind beer goggles...I think you've got vodka goggles on, at least!
Haven’t you been watching TV lately. Everybody knows that a 100lb petite female can totally kick the ass of, out shoot, out think, out run and certainly out talk any 6”3” 250 lb dude on the planet. Its only smart to put out fate in their hands....
Truly a very sad day in naval history. Anyone who’s proud of this is to be pitied.
If we had a president (and therefore commander in chief) with any stones, he’d stop this disgusting PC move instantly. But since we don’t have a president (and haven’t had one since Bush), I guess they feel they can do what they want.
Who’s in charge?
It would be interesting to compare the ship’s readiness and performance before and after a female CO...such comparison’s are not allowed in the US Navy...too politically incorrect.
BTW, EVERY US Navy seagoing vessel that has allowed women to serve onboard has experienced 30-40% pregnancy rates. This has severe consequences both fiscally and on crew morale. Pregnant women are immediately transferred to a shore billet and have to be replaced. This results in fewer shore billets available to men. Ultimately more good male sailors will not re-enlist, and they in turn will have to be replaced, costing even more money.
The question I always ask is this: How does allowing women to serve in these positions actually improve military war fighting readiness? The answer is that it does not. It’s only done for political correctness.
Congrats to this sea warrior.
This is a British vessel. HMS = His/Her Majesty’s Ship.
I say good for Britain, they were hurtling in that direction. So let them perform the social experiment of a captain they call ma’am on a coed ship. And let’s hear the stories.
None of this is in the US Navy. Yet.
Maybe there ought to be an all-femme ship. The USS PMS???
Warriette? Warrienne? Warrix?
I dunno, that first pic looked nice, especially the eyes.
Computer. Locate Captain Janeway.
Captain Janeway is on the bridge...
My eyes must be going — I originally read words 6 & 7 differently....
