Easiest explanation for why Nancy Pelosi opposes the measure? She supports the gay agenda and would love to force chaplains to hold gay weddings. I don't doubt for an instant that she'd also have gay couples living in base housing and getting full marital pay and benefits if she had her way.

Her opposition to the measure doesn't square with her statement that it's meaningless. If the measure only reaffirms the status quo, then there is no reason to oppose it. Well, I suppose she could be concerned about spending five extra minutes of precious legislative time on it, but nah. That's nonsense, too.

As a former command masterchief, I can tell you from first hand expierence that the majority of chaplains that I came in contact with were more worried about their standing with the commanding officer and their next fitness report than they were with the sailors. I’ve long held the belief that chaplains should be civilians assigned by their different religious organizations to serve temporary assignments to the military. This would hopefully take the politics and apple polishing for the next promotion away from the position. Another pet peeve of mine was that the chaplains I knew all seemed to think they were the union represenative of all the worthless snuffies we were processing out of the navy until called down by the commanding officer.
