The stunning expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, D.C., area is profiled in a long, interesting and meticulously accurate CNN story that suggests "the nation's capital has become a Mormon stronghold, with Latter-day Saints playing a big and growing role in the Washington establishment."

"It's hard to point to federal legislation or a White House initiative that bears distinctly Mormon fingerprints," Gilgoff writes, "while it's easy to do the same for other faiths." He cites as an example a recent White House "compromise" on contraception funding, which he says was "mostly a reaction to pressure from Roman Catholic bishops."

If a Jew was on the ballot, and a crisis occurred, I'd at least have confidence that upon such a crisis -- let's say the kind we've seen on the TV show "24" -- that this Jew in the White House could pray to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Who would be the "god" Romney would call upon?
He'd be a man...a sinner...who rose up and got the "god job" as appointed by what Joseph Smith called a "council of gods."
Do you think that god exists to answer any crises' prayers?
I believe Romney has been able to keep his faith separate from his profession.

Every time Willard gets up to speak in his campaign he preaches Mormonism...
Every time...
There are code words that you may not understand...
but other Mormons and those whho have some expertience with Mormo nism recognize them...
Up to now Willard has not been asked about his strange off beat utterances...
But he will...after the convention...
after the convention should Willard get enough votes and not be rejected by the Conservatives like his father George was when he ran for POTUS in 1964...Goldwater 800+ George 41..
Reporters will not let Willard continue on his easy ride...
He will be expected to explain himself...
There are many Christians who view music as from the devil, unless its in church that is, dancing as well.
I would like to know what church you went to that required permission to apply for a job or go on vacation. I have been to many churches around the US and many different denominations and never have I heard this before.
I didn’t know you are once a LSD...interesting. nothing would convert me as I do not belong to a religion. I am a followet of Christ. I am steadfast with that and can appreciate the good in others, because it is not a threat to me.
I did not go there, but I know some who did when my church split. Some went to the cult like side, I stayed with the strict, but normal church. (normal compared to that). It was sad to see half the church split and get caught up in that.
can appreciate the good in others,

No dear...
I mean my Moslem friends who are very nice and very kind...
a whole lot kinder than the Mormons Ive met...
Why would you regard one group of non-Christian people and not another ???
God is no respecter of persons...
Are you a bigot ???
You claim to be a follower of Christ yet don’t show concern for the souls of others and have spent more time on this thread defending non-Christians than trying to find out why we are so passionate about the subject of Mormonism.
It isn’t a threat to MY faith, I know the truth. However, it is a threat to the souls of others, those who think that ‘being goood’ is good enough.
There is no good in anyone, only Christ is good. Athiests can be ‘good’ as well, doesn’t make them Christians.
Rather than fall for the PR line, you may want to actually do some research, find out why people like me are so opposed to a faith we used to follow.
Christ hates lukewarm people. Remember that.
Plz TN, I understand your post. But, it is this exact thing that drove me away from the church. Picking a scripture. to make a point that doesn’t pertain is frustrating. So, let me reaped, I can appreciate others who display fine character and morals to others.
I dunno. I grew up in the suburbs of Denver and there were a fair amount of Mormons in the area, maybe 5-10%, maybe more. I had Mormon neighbors, schoolmates and coworkers growing up. As far as I could tell, they're really just like about every other religion. Some were devout. Some, less so. And then there was the Mormon girl I went to prom with and the Mormon girl I dated in college who (along with their brothers) were sewing some pretty wild oats at the time (just like the rest of us were). I could say the same about the Baptists I grew up with. Some devout, others partied hard.
Yeah, there are some strange aspects of the Mormon religion but they seem to be decent people, good neighbors who are politically conservative, productive, generally successful tax-payers and who just want to raise their kids right.
I really don't get all the Mormon hate present on this forum. When it comes to religions/ideologies I feel threatened by, Mormonism is pretty far down on the list.
Oh for goodness sakes, now were calling names. Wow. I was confused that another religion wad being brought into the conversation and it threw me off. We were discussing Mormons and Christians, right. No problem if you want to open the dialogue to Muslims too. But, I try to stay on topic normally
I went to a church once that split over whether to have carpet or tile, then what color.
Just because people are Christians doesn’t mean they also can not be jerks.
There all all kinds of people, some you like and some you don’t yet we are to gather with believers on a regular basis, it strengths us all.
My daughter and sonIL went to a Baptist Church were he was the music leader, young guy lots of talent and wanted to liven up the worship. Oh, my goodness you would have thought the world was going to end when he went from hymnals to an over head screen (same songs). He just couldn’t stand that people where looking down instead of up.
He got a lot of grief, yet when they lost their twin boys, these same legalistic annoying people were there for weeks and weeks. They cleaned the apartment, brought food, prayed with them for strength, collected money so they could get away for a few days alone and grieve. They were still annoying and still legalistic, yet they came forward to help in a Christ like fashion.
Just because people are annoying is no reason not to go to church and gather with other believers, remember we will be spending eternity with them.
Mormonism is a secretive, media savy cult, and i think it is related to to Romney’s lack of openness, and thus his inability to related to others.
Yes, and Catholicism is also about works, but God knows a persons heart and whether there is a personal relationship

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
so do you have a scripture that tells you to side and believe and aid the unGodly against the children of God ???
Is there actually a scripture in the Christian Bible that instructs us to make war on the believers and to champion the unrighteous against those who believe in the LORD Jesus Christ and Him crucified ???
No there is not...
so why do you who have rejected the children of God, His Bride the church persist on persecuting Christians ???
Was it so bad for you ???
Were you hung on a cross ???
Did you hang there and bleed your lifes blood away ???
No you didnt...
But God did for you and for us...
It appears that you have been too long away from assembling yourself together with other believers...
Frankly Holly with me you have zilch credibility...
No group of believers is peaches and cream..
Everyone has problems of some sort...
Ive been going to church for 63 years now...
I havent found a perfect set of people...
Even my beloved FI are not perfect...
although I love and need every last one of them...
and I count it a very humbling joy and privilege to know them ...
and to know we will spend eternity together...
and I will defend them when they are right and corect them when they are wrong or let someone else do it...
But I WILL NOT accept error when it comes to the LORD Jesus Christ or Christianity...
Holly you can be as wrong and in error as you please about the false religion Mormonism...
though your error will be pointed out to you ...
But when you who have rejected the fellowship of the believers in the LORD Jesus Christ try to lecture me and the other believers on what is in the Christian Bible...
I will not sit still for that dear...
I dont know how old you arte...
But you should get yourself into a Bible belieiing church and meet some Christians imperfect as they are...
Youy might find you will lose that shell youve built for yourself and actually enjoy the company...
Im sure youre a very likable girl in person...
Why dont you give some Christians a chance to get to know you ???

Nana unapologetically quoting the Bible she loves...
“Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? “ (Acts 15:10)
And those were laws from God, not Mormonic mandates.
However, “You may play half-court basketball.”
But how far does “Never be alone” go?
I don’t know if you’re speaking to me directly, or just chose to click on my name, but I do not feel threatened by Mormons and I certainly don’t hate them!
Not agreeing with a religion, finding the beliefs and practices odd, does not equal hate. That’s quite a leap.
And I don’t know how long you’ve been here, but over the years there have been some pretty radical and shall we say over zealous postings by Mormons et al that turned off a lot of FReepers.
Let’s just say there’s a “history”....
