Two men who identified themselves as being from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in Phoenix went to the Hawaii Department of Health Monday morning requesting verification of President Barack Obama's birth certificate, said a state spokeswoman.
A Hawaii deputy attorney general gave the men information concerning the legal requirements to obtain such a document; the requirements are posted on the Health Department's website. The two men then left the office, Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo said.
The two men showed Maricopa County Sheriff's Office badges and identified themselves as Michael Zullo and Brian Mackiewcz, Okubo said. They are "authorized by the Sheriff of Maricopa County, who is conducting an official investigation," a spokesman for the sheriff's office said in an email.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been researching Obama's residency status using a volunteer cold-case "posse," but now has employed a taxpayer-funded deputy, The Arizona Republic reported Monday.
Zullo is a volunteer, the Republic reported, but Okubo said that Mackiewicz presented a business card showing he is with the Threats Management Unit of the sheriff's office.
Arapaio's birth certificate investigation comes as the U.S. Justice Department is suing his office for alleged civil rights violations, including discrimination against Hispanics.
Separately, Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett, who says he is not a "birther," said in a radio interview Thursday that Obama's Arizona ballot status is in question unless Hawaii responds positively to his request under a Hawaii law regarding confirmation of birth certificates.
Hawaii Department of Attorney General spokesman Josh Wisch said Monday the department has been in touch with Bennett since Friday and that he would need to provide legal authority showing his office is "a governmental agency or organization who for a legitimate government purpose maintains and needs to update official lists of persons in the ordinary course of the agency's or organization's activities."
Obama was born in Honolulu on Aug. 4, 1961. Birthers contend Obama was not born in the United States and thus not eligible to be president. The state released a copy of Obama's long-form birth certificate last year, but the release did not satisfy many birthers.
Bennett, a Republican who is reportedly considering a run for governor in Arizona, said Friday he assumes he'll get the confirmation he requested in March from Hawaii officials.
“The Arizona Secretary of State may have a legitimate reason to investigate Obama’s birth certificate, but it’s not so clear that Maricopa County does.”
Fraudulent government documents being circulated in Maricopa county gives him that right. It’s a felony.
Tim Adams who signed an affidavit that there was no Obama birf certificate. Zullo likely touched base with him for leads and people to interview in Hawaii. The Hawaiian witness interview list, to go along with DoH official and former DoH personnel should have included former DoH Director Dr. Neal Palafox who was abruptly fired by Abercrombie along with HI state senator Sam Slom who questioned his firing to Abercrombie
Conspicuously, Gov. AberCommie was away in New York last week "visiting family" and probably was making himself scarce this week too along with his Lt. Governor who is suppose to be in Taiwan.
Carefully read the Hawaii AG's response. Notice that he is telling Bennett, specifically, what legal language he must use to request confirmation of Obama's vital record(s).
But the key phrase, although not quoted, is "provide legal authority." Hawaii is essentially saying to Bennett, "Cite the AZ statute that requires you, as the SoS and head of elections, to confirm a candidate's vital record(s).
It took Hawaii EIGHT weeks to respond. Guess what that means? The Hawaii AG has researched AZ law and knows that there is no such statute. It's just a legal game.
Bennett is going to have to take it to the next level.

But there are laws against using faux ID and false documentation. Doesn’t have to be to verify to be put on ballot. Just that he will not put a person on ballot unless the ID proves not to be faked.

It certainly would be very easy to prove that the real owner of that SS number was a customer of that bank. Even a simple 1099 for savings account interest would be enough.
Both parents have to be citizens of the USA.
Daddy Obama was NOT.
He was a student here on a Fulbright (?) scholarship, and was a citizen of Kenya, which in 1961 was still a colony of Britain. Therefore, Daddy was technically a British citizen.
One is a deputy. One is a volunteer.
Very interesting this matter has been passed on to the Hawaii AG. The head of the DOH could have easily confirmed the matter for the SOS for AZ and this issue would be over long ago.
It’s possible the digital BC released to the public does not match what they have and Hawaii has gone in to self-protect mode. Why else would it have been passed off to the AG?
We may get all 57 states if they run the flamboyant Muslim again.
Law enforcement is the only agency who can address such a violation. Bennett is the SoS. He must address questions about Obama's LFBC in his capacity as the head of elections, which means ballot access.
They release an “abstract” and BO decides to edit it. Would they have any way of proving his information was not provided by them?

I don’t find it unusual. The Hawaii AG reviewed and approved Fukino’s statements about Obama’s vital records and citizenship status. The Deputy AG responded to Orly Taitz’s subpoena demanding access to HDoH vital records. It’s a legal matter, so the head attorney for Hawaii is involved.
What I find interesting is that it took Hawaii eight weeks to respond.
But he cannot base his actions on material that has been deemed to be fake. To do so would be illegal....Someone passes you a fake $20. You are told by a banker it is fake. You don’t pass it at the gas station.
I searched Article 2 Section 1 very carefully, word for word but I didn’t find “unless both parents were as well born in the United States.” Where exactly is that? Please enlighten me.
First; it’s both parents have to be citizens at the time of the birth. not both parents born in the US.
Second; the phrase “natural born” as used at that time was clearly understood by all to mean “ born on US soil of parents who are US citizens”.
Third; there was no ambiguity then (during the writing of the constitution) and the interjected ambiguity now is an attempt to hide treason and the fact that we have no current president.
