Lawmakers are scrambling to save the summer concert season from federal agents poised to seize the instruments of rock and country stars because the wood used to make them may have been illegally harvested–and without their knowledge.

“I don’t want the musicians from Nashville who are flying to Canada to perform this summer to worry about the government seizing their guitars,” said Tennessee Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander.

Bruce plays Teles, full maple neck. He’s in no danger (yet).

> 2 SG’s? You must have played a lot of Black Sabbath.

Heh! Well, I've played a lot of hard rock, but to be honest I didn't cover much Sabbath. Great stuff to play, but hard to reproduce properly live, at least back when I was playing that kind of stuff ('68-'80 mainly). These day I'm mostly playing electric blues and a mix of rock-n-roll, feels more appropriate now that I'm 60. LOL.

This is really great news, most rock and rollers are liberals, I would love to hear their support for big government and the fascist democrats after their Gibson’s are taken.

The feds seem to be focused only on Gibson and no other guitar maker. This may be due to the fact that Gibson is a non union shop...

“It is amazing how our Government has been reduced to useless thuggery in Three short Years.
God this administration is disgusting and Pernicious.
Must be removed ,, Please God. PLEASE, PLEASE.”

And we are worried about Romney! I’d take a good old-fashioned Liberal over this Marxist cretin in the White Hut today in a heartbeat. Slick Willie looks sane when you put him alongside FUBO.

Alexander, whose state is home to famed Gibson Guitars used by bands and stars like Van Halen, the Allman Brothers, Sheryl Crow, Ted Nugent and Paul McCartney, said Friday that he and Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden are working to protect the artists, their instruments and makers and eventually change the law governing illegal wood harvesting.

Nuge? RUH ROH!

I love my Dot - figured it was machine made so the wood they use in the handmade hifalutin’ models wouldn’t be wasted on the second-line production. Although it’s really not fair to compare Epiphone to Jasmine or Applause in terms of “second line” products.

Good for these stupid pricks. They can go to Rumson NJ and start taking all of Bruce Springsteens guitars. That moron is a big Obama supporter.

I had a ‘77 black standard Les paul, and a ‘73 Deluxe that was routed out in the bridge pickup to accept a standard humbucker. I took the mini-bucker out of the neck position and installed an original P-90.

That was way back when you could get a used Les Paul for $500.

I think the Alnico Classic humbuckers in my new Epi Les Paul sound far better than the 490T and 490R pickups than come in a lot of Gibson Les Pauls. I had a used Epi Paul that came with Gibson ‘57 Classic pickups, and they sounded flat.

No I DO NOT think that at all. All I was saying was it would be nice to see these libs getting bit in the arse for once by the very garbage they support and shove down everyones throat all the time. Springsteen I cannot STAND. He is THE hypocrites of hypocrites. He is constantly supporting every lib agenda there is, then he goes and lives in Beverly hills. How working class of him. He supports libs like Obama, fine, let’s see his guitar get taken away. Like this idiot George Clooney holding fundraisers for Obama. Fine, then I’d love to see his face when the federal government takes 90% of his pay. I have a high suspicion that when a lib Prez is in office these guys are given a break because I NEVER see them get screwed like everyone else does. Even when a Repub prez is in office do you. The only people I can think of is Wesley Snipes and Willie Nelson for taxes.

Love the steampunk Flying V.

Flying around with CITES-protected items, such as ivory piano keys and Brazilian rosewood guitars, was an issue long before the latest Lacy amendments.

More has been written about Gibson with less research than even about Obama without research on his past. And the feds don't have any wood under seizure from Gibson from the August 2011 raids. Just wood from Luthier Mercantile, despite all of Henry J.'s press releases.

Just wood from Dallas.

Any FR members want to bet?

Unfortunately (for that hope), Springsteen plays a Fender Telecaster (see comment #41) that doesn't use any exotic woods to speak of. However, if he continues to support Obummer, it will only be a matter of time before the gummint comes after something of his, too.
