I have to say- the first thing I thought of when I saw this title, was an incident from my childhood. At age 13, my buddies and I repelled a pack of bullies with a supersoaker squirtgun...that we had turned into a flamethrower.

It was a grand day. (no injuries on either side, remarkably)

Clear shotgun shells are not new. The idea “failed” because the semi-autos would rip a chunk out of the base and jam.

It's no big trick, and fairly common among certain urban dwellers. Just buy a super soaker toy. Hollow it out. Insert weapon. The down side, of course, is a grown man walking around with one of these under his arm tends to attract attention, just as much as the real thing would.

What flammable liquid will not melt the plastic in short order?

As far as I’m concerned, NO ONE aside from prison inmates should be restricted from owning and carrying guns. People can whine about criminals with guns all they want but criminals already have guns. All the gun laws do is create criminals.

A while back I stumbled across some Jackson Michigan prison records from the late 1800s. Among the items returned to inmates upon release were guns, knives, clubs etc.

Wanda made plastic shotgun shells.

They were different colors for different gages IIRC.

Could have just as easy been clear.

I’d bet serious money that it’s an inert AT-4 tube or similar.

The police there are idiots.

Spray paint it flat black and it’d “less noticeable”, against a black Carhardt Coat or raingear, but it’d still look silly when someone notices the “toy”. Until he fires it.

I wouldn’t fire it, personally. Maybe “bench fire” it, but I value my hands and face (in one piece) too much to pull the trigger.

and I have a resistance style streetsweeper that can fire ammonia/bleach filled ping pong balls.

I bet your parents had to watch you like a hawk when you were a kid.

But, you would've been my best friend...

I’ve heard of people that turned ordinary kitchen knives into weapons. What will they think of next?

Old quote: "There are no dangerous weapons. There are only dangerous men."

It is not possible to turn the work into a safe playpen by banning ever-more items that criminals can turn into weapons. The only thing that works is keeping the criminals in jail, or killing them.

We filled it with regular gasoline, duct-taped a wooden dowel to the nozzle, and then duct-taped a zippo lighter to the end of the dowel. Previously in the week we’d received a delightful book in the mail (ordered thru a boy scout magazine!) called “incendiaries and other explosives”, and we’d begun experimenting with various napalm concoctions as well.

Anyways, back to the flamethrower- it worked for approximatel a minute, maybe less? But it worked incredibly before melting into a flaming gob of plastic. I will never forget that image of a twenty foot jet of fire and the looks on the neighborhood boys’ faces.

We’ve all led fairly normal lives since, note. No prison for arson activities, etc ;)

I think the “gun” is something we should give to all criminals and criminal wannabees. They would exterminate themselves.

If you look closely, it is nothing more than a piece of 1/2 inch black iron pipe with a 1/2 inch cap on the end. There is no way to fire it because the end cap is solid. Old Zip guns used a spring and nail to fire the cartridge and it was placed where the end cap was.

Next, it was supposed to fire a 20 gauge shell. If, for some reason the end cap was made to have a firing mechanism, when fired 2 things would happen.

1. the entire barrel assembly would come out of the back of that toy like the projectile it was firing. 2. more than likely the simple steel pipe would blow up.

I smell a rat here that was invented by the gun control activists to scare the timid and weak minded.

I was amazed to see a rat-trap shotgun on display at the State Police training headquarters. So easy to make with a board, piece of pipe, roofing nail, and a trip string. Sometimes showing off trophies is not a smart idea as it educates your criminals!

Of course the super-soaker shotgun may have been a Darwin Award in the making!

Yes, this was done, the removal of rights for some citizens, so that later it can be done to all. Sadly many do not agree that freemen all have the right.

Good point, DH.

I wouldn’t think that squirtgun’s plastic would be enough to absorb the 20ga recoil, either. Or the simple piece of pipe would be strong enough to contain the initial firing explosion. But I’m not a gunsmith, so I don’t know all the physics involved, either. Just my initial thoughts.

They report this like it's a bad thing. "The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
