Notre Dame sues Obama Administration over HHS rule
The Washington Examiner ^ | May 21, 2012 | David Freddoso

In 2009, President Obama delivered the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame. Now, Notre Dame is suing his administration over its insistence that Catholic schools and other institutions provide insurance coverage for sterilizations, contraceptives, and other abortifacient drugs without any meaningful opt-out for conscientious objectors.

Rev. John Jenkins, the university's president, was given much grief over his commencement invitation to President Obama in 2009. Today, he sent the following email to Notre Dame employees, announcing and explaining the lawsuit.

A careful reading of my post will show that whether they want to or not, NDU must take this path. When they invited Obama he was the newly elected POTUS who had overseen nothing but Porkulus. He was the first black POTUS and as such was an historical figure. Now he and his minions have determined that the Catholic Church may not live by its belief system. That is an attack on Catholicism. The icon of the Catholic college in America had to take this course or forever forfeit its place in the American/Catholic firmament. I doubt Jenkins wanted to go here, but he had no choice.

Regardless of the recent liberal politics of many Catholics, this should earn Catholics our support and appreciation on this effort. Paraphrasing that other famous/infamous Catholic, JFK, “Ich bin Katholisch” regards the Church’s efforts against 0bama.

Just as a heads-up, few will know who you are talking about by using NDU ... it’s UND ... University of Notre Dame... :)

"Conscience?" One would hope so ; although it could be he was just stuck between a rock and a hard place. Maybe Bishop Jenky caused some sway? :)

Here's a book review of What Happened to Notre Dame by an alum, Tom O'Toole, '81 (aka Fighting Irish Thomas). Charles Rice wrote and called Tom thanking him for the review...

Link.

I wonder if Barry Soetoro knows that abortion is generally forbidden by Islam after the first 4 months of gestation.

Of course the supreme ruler knows better than all the religions of the world.

It's not justy ND, it's 43 Catholic dioceses and institutions involved in this lawsuit against the Obamacare juggernaut.

43 is no more than a tiny representative sample, but it's a start.

I don't know what religion most FReepers are (unless they wear their denomination on their sleeve, in their FReepername or their tagline) but... how about it, Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, Baptists & Jews....you gonna sit on the sidelines tossing peanut shells...or are you gonna step up to the plate?

Was this the very same school/U that invited the One several years ago and then when IT demanded, they removed the cross from the background or am I getting old and senile and imagining things? - (Don’t you dare answer that one if that’s the case!)

Thanks for the link for that book review.    It was a good one.

(There were some other interesting things at that "Fighting Irish Thomas" web site you linked to, including the article by Tom on Fr. Corapi.   I've been trying to learn what has become of him lately as well, but so far I can't seem to find any really recent updates.    I hope that he too turns around his situation, and gets himself back on track as well.)

‘...to the vast majority of Americans [UND] IS America’s foremost Catholic university...”

Sorry. That illusion does not pass the stink test.

“...the Golden Dome, Touchdown Jesus, and Pat O’Brien as Rockne ... All these identify [UND]...”

Sorry. Sentimental football movies from long ago, and
expensive pieces of architecture, built long ago by the donations of previous generations, do not make up for the lack of orthodoxy in the classrooms and the administration today.

“...Notre Dame cannot stand aside while the American Church is attacked for its beliefs.”

But Notre Dame can stand aside, and it has stood aside; and worse, it has often joined in the attack on the Catholic Church. [There is no such thing as the “American Church”].

Frankly given the cost of collage tuition, I am at a loss to explain why anyone would give any money to any collage.

We should only express delight and encouragement when Father Jenkins locates his backbone and does the right thing.

I figure that Jenkins only joined in the lawsuits so he could traitorously report back legal strategy to Obama and the abortionists.

If the other litigants are smart they'll completely isolate Jenkins and the Notre Dame team so he can't harm their lawsuits.
