NAACP Endorses Same-Sex Marriage Peter Wallsten 05/19/2012
The NAACPs board of directors voted Saturday to endorse same-sex marriage rights adding the influential voice of the countrys leading black civil rights organization to a debate that has divided the African-American community.
The decision has political implications for President Obama, who needs an enthusiastic turnout from black voters to help him win reelection in November but angered some African-American church pastors with his announcement this month that he believes gays and lesbians should have the right to marry.
The NAACP now presents itself as a counterbalance to the influence of the traditionally socially conservative black church. It can also help establish closer ties between blacks and gays, two of Obamas most loyal constituencies.
Some pro-Republican conservative evangelical activists have said Obamas announcement gives them an unusual opportunity to deflate enthusiasm among black voters for reelecting the countrys first black president, who tends to win more than 90 percent support in that community.
Civil marriage is a civil right and a matter of civil law, NAACP president Benjamin Todd Jealous said in a statement released Saturday.
The NAACPs support for marriage equality is deeply rooted in the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution and equal protection of all people. The well-funded right wing organizations who are attempting to split our communities are no friend to civil rights, and they will not succeed.
The Human Rights Campaign, a leading gay rights group, issued a jubilant statement following the NAACP announcement. We could not be more pleased with the NAACPs history-making vote today which is yet another example of the traction marriage equality continues to gain in every community, said HRC president Joe Solmonese.

And soon, the only breakfast cereal permitted will be Queerios — pour on the milk and they eat each other. Thanks Steelfish.
Black Americans, what has the NAACP done for you today?
The NAACP works for the Democratic Party. That’s why they endorsed same-sex marriage.
23... How can Satan drive out Satan? 24If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong mans house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house. 28
Mark 3:23-28
It’s really simple. Marriage is what it is - uniting opposite halves to make a whole. It can’t be any other way. Go to nature, get two magnets, each has a positive and negative pole. Two positives repel, two negatives repel, ONLY a positive and negative attract! Takes one of each in any situation to make a whole.
I've always said that sooner or later they will self-Balkanize and dissolve into infighting at the slightest opportunity. And watching the presidency of "Old Hope'n'change" crumble after one term is going to be too much to take.
Yep, no matter what happens in such a confrontation, you still end up with a devil occupying the place. God has to occupy it to force all devils out. Still, the infighting between devils can be very, er, interesting.
How sad that “gay marriage” has itself become a “meh” issue for so many Americans. This is egalitarianism carried to a fault. I think it’s fine if any gay wants to marry... a partner of opposite sex.
As Rush always says, it should be called the NAALCP; the National Association for the Advancement of LIBERAL Colored People.
I wonder if the average black person will finally give some thought as to just what this group does, or does not, do for them.
