A condemned killer's fight to receive surgery for agonizing hip pain pushed Kentucky officials into an uncomfortable debate over security, politics and even the possibility of inviting scorn from Fox News pundits.
Emails and memos obtained by The Associated Press show corrections officials struggling for a year to reconcile their duty to provide medical care with the political ramifications of spending tens of thousands of dollars for surgery on a man they plan to execute. A key problem would turn out to be security issues that led several hospitals to balk at treating inmate Robert Foley, who still hasn't had the surgery.
"Hip replacement for an inmate who has exhausted all appeals and will soon be executed?" Kentucky State Penitentiary warden Phil Parker wrote in an email on Nov. 22, 2010. "I can see this making Fox News on a slow news day, maybe even on a busy news day. In fact, I bet (Fox News host Bill O'Reilly) would love to put this in his 'Pinheads' commentary. Just a thought to consider before it goes too much further."

Yes, that’s right. We have to be liberal towards death row inmates. But senior citizens who are not in prison get to choose between the red pill and the blue pill.
Instead of hip surgery, give him drip surgery and get the thing over. Problem solved.
My God! The ASPCA doesn’t “fix” cats that are scheduled to be euthanized but this is on the table??

.Robert Foley shot and killed brothers Rodney and Lynn Vaughn in his home in Laurel County, Kentucky in 1991.
Several adults and at least six children were present when Foley returned home from a car auction. The group sat at the kitchen table drinking beer when tempers flared. Rodney pointed at Foley and said not to sucker punch him again. Foley knocked Rodney to the floor, pulled his gun and shot him six times.
Everyone left but Rodney’s brother, Lynn. Foley then shot Lynn in the back of the head and later dumped the bodies in a nearby creek. The bodies were discovered two days later. Foley was charged with Capital Murder, tried by a jury and sentenced to Death.
Second Case
In 1994, Foley was again convicted and sentenced to Death for the murder of four people. Their names were Kim Bowerstock, Calvin Reynolds, Lillian Contino and Jerry McMillan.
Foley became aware that Bowerstock was in the area. He was angry because he believed that she had informed his parole officer that he was selling drugs.
Foley found Bowerstock and immediately grabbed her by the hair. Reynolds came to her assistance. Foley pulled his pistol and shot Reynolds, then Bowerstock, then Contino, then McMillan. He returned to Bowerstock and shot her again in the back of the head. He took their valuables, placed the victims in a septic tank and covered them with lime and cement.

They should just give him pain meds...morphine suppresses respiration, problem solved.
Any citizen in the street with a bad hip and without a $100,000 wad of cash in his pocket could demand a hip replacement, all day long if he liked. So can this puke. When he gets out of prison, he can work for a few years, or borrow the money or limp. This is called life, on our side of the bars.
The ASPCA would also go ahead and humanely euthanize ahead of schedule a cat discovered to have severe problems that was due to be euthanized anyway, to save even a small bit of resources for a healthier cat that might be adopted.
I think speeding up the execution sounds like a pretty spiffy plan, actually.
Absolutely....give him the surgery ASAP.And during the surgery,in order to avoid his experiencing *any* pain,make sure he gets *plenty* of anesthesia.
This country has gone insane.
