LOXAHATCHEE GROVES, Fla. -- A man is dead after a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputy shot him during an altercation, according to PBSO spokesperson Teri Barbera.
Seth Adams, 24, was shot by the deputy near the One Stop Garden Shop on 1950 A Road and Okeechobee Boulevard in Loxahatchee Groves and was pronounced dead at St. Mary's Medical Center Thursday morning.
A family spokesperson is calling his death senseless.
Robert Saylor, a family friend speaking on behalf of the family, said Adams was shot four times in the torso in the parking lot of the shop and was unarmed. Saylor said the 24-year-old, who recently moved back to Loxahatchee Groves from Albany, New York, works at the garden shop, was a mild mannered person and wouldn't hurt a fly.
His brother, David Adams, owns the property and found his brother bloody in the back of the property, Saylor said.
According to PBSO spokesperson Teri Barbera, an on-duty sheriff's deputy came across Adams just before midnight Wednesday and they got into a fight. At some point, PBSO reports, the deputy "feared for life" and shot Adams in his waist.
David described his brother as "timid" to their family pastor.
Investigators towed a blue pickup truck from the shooting scene at 4:45 a.m. and sheriff's office officials say they are in the preliminary stages of investigating the incident.
Barbera said the deputy was working undercover and Adams confronted the deputy.
It was then the deputy, who was wearing a tactical uniform with a visible sheriff's badge, identified himself as a deputy and for unknown reasons an altercation occurred, she said.
The sheriff's office confiscated all the computers at the garden shop, including the ones connected to the numerous surveillance cameras, the family said. (emphasis mine)
The deputy, only being identified as a male who is a veteran, has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Children, one of these statements is not like the other. Can you spot the difference? Of course you can! This story stinks worse than that skank-a$$ Debbie Whatsername Schultz likely does.
An armed society is a polite society, an unarmed loudmouth in an armed society is a fool.
Exactly....I’m sure we can count on the Sheriff’s office to hand over all incriminating evidence against the officer to the family’s attorney. /s
This story stinks and sounds like the guy was protecting his property when shot, then
the Deputy went to his trunk and changed clothing before anyone else arrived to cover his ass.
Your theory about changing would provide the answer to my question.
Jackbooted Tac thugs. They are the worst SOB’s when it comes to Roided-up overreaction.
I want to know more about this one. I will be looking for followup on this. I’m really ticked off at the crap coming down lately. There is no excuse for blatant target practice by the shootings of family dogs much less the family.
It’s ugly in America anymore. It’s NOT the America I was raised in, and I know who is at fault. Just waiting for the rest of America to catch up understanding the Left is succeeding when it should be those that love this country going about their lives everyday that are succeeding as the Constitution intended.
I’ll be watching for more on this one.
While that may not be what happened, it certainly is the most reasonable scenario to take away from reading the account.
I have been telling people, for many years, every chance I get, to "arm" themselves not only for physical self-defense, but for legal self-defense; to carry the devices that record audio and video, and to protect that data as best they can. Nowadays they can stream it to safety a lot quicker than any thug (badge or no badge) can seize and destroy it.
An ounce of prevention, people!
Strange twists to this case. An undercover deputy "prowls" on private property, gets into a pissing contest with a resident then shoots him. Then half the rest of the goon squad shakes down the garden shop and takes all the computers and CCTV tapes.
You know, for the overwhelming majority of my life (I’m in my mid-50’s), I gave cops the benefit of a doubt. The phrase “jackbooted thugs” was generally offensive to me.
No longer.
Avoid dealing with the cops if at all possible. Cooperate with them only with the goal of getting out of their clutches. Try to eliminate any interaction with them as you cannot rely on them to come down on the sensible side of things. When they roll up on you, in their eyes you’re very much a perp and you will be treated accordingly by them.
This sh!t happens when a society goes from being governed to being ruled.
Hey! Did anyone consider that they cop could’ve been burgling the place and was found out by the victim?
I don’t put anything past the steroided creeps anymore.
I’m 52 and the change is apparent,i concede your point.
Barbera said the deputy was working undercover and Adams confronted the deputy.
It was then the deputy, who was wearing a tactical uniform with a visible sheriff’s badge, identified himself as a deputy
HUH? Their definition of undercover and mine are very different.
This smells...........
I’m thinking the officer was startled upon waking.
I’m thinking the officer was up to no good when he was interrupted by the owner’s brother.
Yeah, the lone "undercover" cop in tactical clothing and the fact that the dude's brother "finds" him is causing this to not add up at all.
Man, there sure are a lot of these “isolated incidents” cropping up.
