In a testy interview today with CNN's Brooke Baldwin on the Virginia legislature's recent refusal to appoint openly gay Richmond prosecutor Tracy Thorne-Begland to a judgeship, Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, declared that "sodomy is not a civil right." .

Marshall, a U.S. Senate candidate and one of the General Assembly's most conservative members, denied that he had lobbied against Thorne-Begland because he is gay, but instead termed him an "activist."

"He can be a prosecutor if he wants to," Marshall said, "but we don't want advocates as judges."

Marshall rejected Baldwin's comparison of the issue to civil rights and women's suffrage, remarking: "Sodomy is not a civil right. It's not the same as the civil rights movement."

Still, it's not something the government should be looking into. On general grounds I agree with the repeal of sodomy laws because it's none of the government's damn business. That is, until that sodomite wants the government to put him in a position of trust, power and authority over others. Then it is very much the government's business.
Marshall is a good man, I have spoken to his wife briefly a few years ago-too bad he didn’t even come close to winning the Senate race.
It is not a civil rights movement.
It is more of a fender bender, rear ender movement.
Seriously, he’s totally correct. I really do not know why minorities have not just come out being totally offended at being morally equated to the “struggles” of sodomites and lesbians.
The reason sodomy laws existed is because it causes diseases and promotes vice that costs the civil society economically and health wise. There are actually very good reasons to have sodomy laws.
We have a right to outlaw acts which destroy the “general welfare” and destroy Virtue—since all Founders knew (since the time of Plato) that Virtue is necessary for a free society. The MOST important element for economies to flourish and for a successful, humane military is Virtue.

The point is that we were a Nation based on Reason, Logic and Science and we recognized God as the Giver of our Natural Rights and as the Lawgiver.
