Mitt Romneys campaign manager rejected efforts to use President Obamas former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, in ads attacking the president, as reportedly planned by a super PAC working toward electing Mr. Romney in November.
Unlike the Obama campaign, Gov. Romney is running a campaign based on jobs and the economy, and we encourage everyone else to do the same, the campaign manager, Matt Rhoades, said in a statement on Thursday morning. President Obamas team said they would kill Romney, and, just last week, David Axelrod referred to individuals opposing the president as contract killers. Its clear President Obamas team is running a campaign of character assassination. We repudiate any efforts on our side to do so.

Statements like that from Mr. McCain may be part of the reason Mr. Romneys campaign quickly rejected the idea of using Mr. Wright as a way of attacking the president. Already, advisers to Mr. Obama have raised the question of whether Mr. Romney will speak out like Mr. McCain did.
Stunning! Will Mitt stand up, as John McCaln did? Or allow the purveyors of slime to operate on his behalf? David Axelrod, a senior campaign adviser to Mr. Obama, wrote on Twitter early Thursday morning.

Reminds me of an advertisement suggestion I sent to the McCain camp once I got thoroughly frustrated with him for not launching a tough campaign against Obama:
Scene one: Voter asks McCain what he thinks about Rev Wright. McCain Replies, “I’m not going there.”
Scene two: Voter asks McCain what he thinks about Obama voting to let babies who survive abortion die unattended. McCain Replies, “I’m not going there.”
Scene three: McCain stands on a hill overlooking the capital, tears streaming down his cheeks, and wails, “I’m not going there.”
Funny, they never made that ad -— wonder if it hit too close to home???
Well said.
The day we decide to support a candidate who is conservative and really means it is the day we stop settling for ‘better than Obama’.
Just sayin’.
I say let's vet both their so called religious affiliation. Then maybe Americans will open their eyes and see the fraud both of these are about!
How are you going to push him in the direction you want, if you keep defending him when his actions or decisions are questionable?
Especially now that you've signaled to him that you have no choice but to support him even though you have to grit your teeth to do so.
His thinking: "Heck, they've got no choice. I'll do what I want."
I know school teachers who go ballistic at the beginning of the school year on extremely little things their kids do. They do it on purpose. They say it gives the kids the idea, "If she gets that upset over this tiny thing, then I'm not pushing her on any of the big stuff."
Well, only took 9 days for you to do an abrupt shift re: commenting upon the religiosity of POTUS candidates, eh, Jeff?
May 8, 2012, to NoRedTape: Do you really have to make this thread an anti-LDS thing? ...As to religion, if you must make it about that... Source: Santorum endorses one-time rival Romney
No religious hypocrisy being practiced here, eh, Jeff?
Tis OK to make threads an anti-Islamic "thing" as long as it pertains to Obama, eh? But Mormonism is somehow "sacrosanct" from similar dissection?
Crass religio-political hypocrisy, Jeff!
Do you think the country can stand four more years of Obama? I don’t.
People are not singlaing that they are going to follow him like lemmings. YThey are soignaling him that they are going to vote for him based on his positions that he is campaigning on and based on the desire to remove Obama.
Then, with a bunch of Tea Parte reps and sentors, we will hold him to those commitmtnets. The ones he made.
I believe, if he gets in and we have such majoirites in the House and Senate, he will fulfill them because the free market, non-regularoty, smaller government solutions he is proposing will work and he and the congress wil get credit (deservedly) for turning around an atrocious situation created by Obama.
You are projecting what you believe he will think, not what is going to actually happen.
Anyhow, we both agree that we have to get the most conservative, Tea Party oriented Congress possible in place and we can work (and must work) very hard together to get that done.
God’s speed.
I quoted what was on Hannity last night for millions to see and hear.
And will say right now that religion is not at all the issue here in the least...the lying and the infighting between Wright and Obama are...and the opportunity it presents for the Romney campaign to not even have to go there because they are playing it out themselves.
But have a great day all the same.
Unlike with McCain, I understand Romney’s campaign not to use the issue of religion to attack Obama. They don’t want the campaign to deal with Romney’s Mormonism. McCain didn’t have this problem, yet he declined to use it.
Juan McRINO would be so proud.
You’ve got that right. Romney never denounced the lies spun by his super pacs against Newt or any other candidate but he wants to play nice with Obama?
Romney’s aide in Fla said they didn’t just want to beat Newt they wanted to destroy him. What a POS!
You got that right. The rino won’t even charge the donkey but he never hesitated to lie and destroy Newt via his pacs.
Smart move.
A mormon attacking a muslim pretending to be a christian? That would be idiotic. None of them are true followers of Jesus Christ.
Romney would be smart to just let everyone else do that kind of attacking.
Want that? Keep supporting Bishop backstabber.

Jeff, people are not siding with Romney based on his positions.

Were he to become president, I’d trust him to side with democrats and rinos to push through objectionable laws.
I’d trust him to push through “moderate” judges (read: liberal)
I’d trust him to reward his elitist social corporatist allies.
I’d trust him to promote 3rd way thinking.
The Dems love it when Republican candidates pull their punches. And in this case, they hardly had to raise a fuss to get Romney to turtle. The Dems feared Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, because both were ruthless in defence of their respective candidates. Atwater saved Rockefeller Republican Bush Sr.’s hide in the 1988 election. He could have done the same in 1992 against Clinton if he hadn’t become ill. He was not afraid to exploit the weaknesses of his enemies even if it meant getting his hands dirty. Lizardhead James Carville learned from Atwater’s success and employed the same aggressive strategies in defence of the seemingly indefensible Bill Clinton. The lesson: the bold and unrepentant win elections. The meek and apologetic get trounced. Romney has clearly learned nothing from the past.
Reverend Wright has said America deserved to be attacked on 9/11; that Americas chickens were coming home to roost. He is infamous for the quote “not God bless America, but G*d America.” A position the Mormon church does not hold.
In this case I'd say the problem is not so much a religious one, as it is about the rhetoric of Reverend Wright. I'd say it is far more pertinent to call Obama out for sitting in a "church" for twenty years under the teaching of a man who hates our nation, than to criticize Romney's religion. I thought Jeff was trying to keep back the mockers with their planet Kolob charts and such which can get a good distance off topic.
mormonism will be laid bare, in this campaign. Romney will try and stop it, to no avail.
