Here is proof that no one is immune from the violence in Detroit. It turns out pastor and gospel singer Marvin Winans is the city's latest crime victim. The reverend says he was roughed up at the gas pump. Thieves robbed him and then carjacked him. They're still on the streets with his luxury SUV.
He stopped at pump number one to refuel at the Citgo at Linwood and the Davison on the city's west side. Winans, founder on Detroit's Perfecting Church, walked inside the Citgo and noticed a dozen young men in the gas station's lobby.
As Pastor Winans walked back out to pump gas, three to four of the young men followed him to the pump.
Winans told police he was suspicious, so he watched the young men as his gas tank overflowed.
"He directed his attention back to the gas pump and was turning it off. At that time, a gentleman that was here at the gas station punched him from his blind side, knocking him to the ground. When he fell to the ground, a couple more guys intervened and started punching and kicking him while he was down. They then went into his pockets and took his wallet containing approximately $200 in cash and a few other personal items," said Inspector Nick Kyriacou.
The thieves drove off with Pastor Winans' 2012 burgundy Infiniti QX56. The SUV list price is $72,000. His $40,000 Presidential Rolex was also stolen.

anyhow, it sounds like this chap is independently rich. he’s not in the calling for the sake of the dough.
Thanks for the info Graybeard58 ~ I’d never had any idea what pastors are paid. Your pastor must have good sources of income other than your church and it’s wonderful that he’s turned down salary increases! To me that says he considers the financial health as well as the spiritual health of the church to be important. Good for him!
I’m sorry, I love the song “Blessed Assurance” by Fanny Crosby for its lyrics & spiritual truths. I am a born again Christian, but I can’t stand black divas like CeCe Winans (or any divas, male or female), warbling out her self-gloriying version of the song. Kind of like when they sing the National Anthem and inject all sorts of warbles & notes that were never there. Just a way to hide the fact that they really don’t have such great voices after all. Just my opinion is all.... I have no beef against you or your comments at all.
Has you pastor also been a successful recording artist for 30+ years?
Yeah that’s it. How stupid can you be?
1. A ‘pastor’ with an expensive car and jewelry.
2. Driving an expensive car and wearing expensive jewelry in a ghetto neighborhood.
3. Showing off money among a gang of thugs.
Give it a shot and prove your point.
He isn’t just ANY pastor. He is a member of the Winans family. His parents won several Grammys. Marvin has recorded several albums himself and Siblings Bebe and CeCe have recorded several albums as well. (There are 10 kids) The whole family are friends with Whitney Houston’s family.
At one time there were even laws about faithful renditions of “The Star Spangled Banner” in places like Massachusetts. A band arranger then got in trouble because of a flatted chord. I think that kind of policy is ridiculous, and if you dislike what you hear from an artist the answer is simply do not patronize him or her. You have not proved that such things are “self glorifying” (puhleeze! we are talking about style, not about content). But for a person with your sense of judgmentalism you would be at the most peace simply to watch what you feel to be reliably “normal.” No sense putting yourself in situations where you are tempted to be vexed. Maybe that’s even FR.
I agree with your comment that "if you dislike what you hear from an artist the answer is simply do not patronize him or her". I already told you that I have no problem with your comments, until now. "But for a person with your sense of judgmentalism you would be at the most peace simply to watch what you feel to be reliably normal. No need to make that judgmental comment.
