Here is proof that no one is immune from the violence in Detroit. It turns out pastor and gospel singer Marvin Winans is the city's latest crime victim. The reverend says he was roughed up at the gas pump. Thieves robbed him and then carjacked him. They're still on the streets with his luxury SUV.
He stopped at pump number one to refuel at the Citgo at Linwood and the Davison on the city's west side. Winans, founder on Detroit's Perfecting Church, walked inside the Citgo and noticed a dozen young men in the gas station's lobby.
As Pastor Winans walked back out to pump gas, three to four of the young men followed him to the pump.
Winans told police he was suspicious, so he watched the young men as his gas tank overflowed.
"He directed his attention back to the gas pump and was turning it off. At that time, a gentleman that was here at the gas station punched him from his blind side, knocking him to the ground. When he fell to the ground, a couple more guys intervened and started punching and kicking him while he was down. They then went into his pockets and took his wallet containing approximately $200 in cash and a few other personal items," said Inspector Nick Kyriacou.
The thieves drove off with Pastor Winans' 2012 burgundy Infiniti QX56. The SUV list price is $72,000. His $40,000 Presidential Rolex was also stolen.

There isn’t necessarily a contradiction here.
A musician with good instincts will make even his or her mistakes sound good. Fumbles sometimes do happen and recoveries are split second. When the other day I knocked the ginger off of the spice shelf over the sink and then caught it before it plunged in, I knew I hadn’t lost my reflexes yet, at well over 50 years of age.
If the piano is in good shape you might be able to get close to what was paid for it. Not every music appreciating listener cares to become a performer.
that’s crass
So he had ‘his craft’ perfected! Good little thief!
While vacationing in Spain a guy walks up to us - probably because we looked like damn tourists - and opened his long coat and on the inside on both sides of the coat - all watches! Right on the Costa del sol, no stores around, no promises, just dumb tourists! We did buy one with a nice leather band - it was cheap IIRC $10 - that was 30+ years ago. He closed his coat and walked away. What did we get out of it, a story to tell and really the shock when he opened his coat - WTF?
Didn’t know that - thanks for the info!
It is said to work in mysterious ways...
God is no more an “it” than you are. Actually you have more “itness” than God does. Crass.
Okay. “He”. Better now...
Was there some “karmic” morality play going on here about stolen money that should have been the church’s or its congregants’, is that what you are getting at? I thought it was clear that Winans became wealthy in the music biz. Nobody made anybody buy his music.
As far as Detroit goes, been there.
Ah, thanks! Now I have some info for my daughter - and the perfectionist that she is that is probably what happened.
So my daughter didn't get her gift from me and I know where since my spouses family/parent/siblings all played the accordion and back then someone passed on the info about 'that family of 5 playing' - they were invited to Carnegie Hall and performed and that was the end. For some reason, all the three kids didn't want to play it anymore and the parents thought the milestone was enough. I think the two oldest were just went into teenage years, also.
My MIL was told by her music teacher (piano) when she was younger, she couldn't teach her anything else and asked her father (her mom died when she was 5) to send her to Julliard and he didn't/won't. He was too interested in his new wife/business, etc.
So when she got married she started the accordion thingie on her own/taught herself and they/family all followed suit with a music teacher. I like that story because, again, it's something I can't do (or interested in doing) but admire. Hey, you musicians need an audience and that is where 'my type', the listener (but never a critic), comes in! :)
Who the hell is writing this stuff???? "A GENTLEMAN"???
Live by the Bling, die by the Bling.
So....no one can have a nice car..and wear nice stuff..and if you do you will die????
A minister who has a Rolex....IS NOT a minister.
His $40,000 Presidential Rolex was also stolen.

First Gay President sending a message?
From the sounds if it, being a “pastor” does have its rewards....Expensive cars, rolex watches, cash in the pocket.... Then again, you can also get that by being a drug dealer.... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Which career do I choose?
No matter, the good Pastor Marvin was just plain stupid. He was flaunting his status in an area nobody in their right mind would venture into.

My pastor shops at thrift stores and drives a 16 year old Suburban.
One that believes in this material world. He's welcome to it. It's gonna turn to dust one day.
“Maybe Im out of it, but what type of pastor drives a $72,000 vehicle and wears a $40,000 watch?”
My Pastor drives a Lincoln Navigator which has a base price of $57,775, add a few extras and taxes and you’re up in the mid $60s to early $70s easily.
The thing is, he sure didn’t buy it on his church salary which has been at $26,000 for years.
As you might guess, he has other sources of income and has turned down salary increases.
He doesn’t own a $40,000 watch that I’m aware of. No parsonage or other perks either.
By the way, the church is required to pay workers comp insurance on him,(Illinois), he’s been preaching there for 43 years and so far, no on the job accidents.
It seems like car jackings are going way up. Most likely because encoded keys make it difficult for such “gentlemen” to start your car without them.
Make sure to be aware of your surroundings and always have a way to escape. Also, if you get into an accident in one of these ‘hoods, call 911 immediately, say you feel threatened, keep moving and stay on the line until backup meets you. Even if you are carrying, dont stop. It is likely several of the “first responders” also will be. Some of these ‘accidents’ are staged to steal your car.
