(and yes, support FR, too!!)
Well, I guess the Tea Party is completely dead huh...</sarcasm>>
Uh, not so fast...of the three candidates in the race, she had the least institutional tea party support.
The most high-profile tea party groups lined up behind her opponents, with Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and his Senate Conservatives Fund (along with the Club for Growth) lining up behind state Treasurer Don Stenberg, and the Tea Party Express, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum backing state Attorney General Jon Bruning. She was an afterthought in that equation, and only got Sarah Palins and Herman Cains backing in recent days.
Any idea why Tea Party backed Bruning? I would have understood Stenberg, but Bruning?
Bruning has a lot of baggage, he’s the RINO at heart who puts on his Tea Party shirt when it suits him to. Had he won he’d have had a lot of promises to keep, a lot of special interests to pay back...and that’s not the typical kind of guy the TP gets behind, but because he was slick, they did in this case.
Stenberg was the TP choice but he’s viewed as a perpetual candidate who’s always running for one office or another. I couldn’t have predicted the Fischer upset but it will be interesting now to see if she is able to avoid the “handlers” and political operatives who will swarm around her now and potentially do to her what they did to Palin.
I’m hoping Palin’s support extends beyond just an endorsement and that she really steps in and helps some of these candidates campaign in a way that doesn’t set them up to fail, or compromise their beliefs.
Darn Republican war on women.
Seconded your recommendation with $50.
Go, Deb!
