Maybe shield it a little.*
Freeper project:
Get an IR camera, set it in front of a board with heat shield installed on it, let someone walk behind the board and check to see if the camera can see the heat signature.
*But I’ve heard that radiant barrier material lessens the life of your shingles, due to the heat reflection/ redirection.
I’ve heard the “reduced shingle life” issue, but I don’t think that’s really a problem - they get pretty hot up there anyway. The problem is when that heat seeps down through your attic, your ceiling, and your house. Preventing that increases comfort and lowers cooling costs.
And, if you want to cool your shingles - water them.
I've heard the same about napalm.
