Its safe to say the folks at Time magazine werent caught unawares by the controversy already boiling up around their latest cover, which features an attractive 26-year-old mother breastfeeding her almost-four-year-old son.
It was a taste of that controversy that convinced Rick Stengel, Times managing editor, that the story deserved to be on the cover.

TIME is a cougar. Trying desperately to be edgy, appealing, or even relevant. Visually screaming “Pick me up!!!”
Next, perhaps, a scratch-and-sniff cover.
I suppose so, if you find that imagery arousing.
That was my take. The pose of the mother is more suggestive than nurturing and the look on the child's face doesn't seem like a baby finding comfort ... more like a kid trying to look cool for his buddies.
I'm not so sure I believe this a mother and son.
I know a boy who is 13 years old. He still sits on mommy’s lap, falls asleep in her arms at the campfire and, on those “scary” nights, crawls into her bed. YIKES! That boy has got some problems and will, like this kid, have future issues.
Indeed. And when you give it just a moment of thought, you have to believe the photo wasn't just a "one and done," serendipitously catching mom and baby in the middle of a feeding. This was a professional shoot, with the proper lighting and angles to the subject. The young boy was undoubtedly "coached" on how much of the breast to take into his mouth (lest any nipple or areola be shown), and what angle to look at the camera. There were likely multiple photos in order to get, "just the right shot." This was anything but a beautiful moment of intimacy between mother and child, captured on film.
I think the pic is very creepy with her son at that age but I find the Mom very attractive, what can I say? I am hot blooded healthy male. I would trade places with the kid.
I am tempted to respond to your post with, “Well, duh”, but I suspect a lot of people have not thought of that and it needs to be said. This is clearly part of a photo shoot. There are probably hundreds of shots. Everything from on the couch to sitting to you name it. Probably even some with her partially nude.
1. This will help perpetuate the “War on Women” meme. The more conservatives rail against it, the more the media will claim “oppression”. This was intentionally placed to get public reaction of social conservatives to further the warfare of division.
2. There is a faction of feminists that are militant about breast-feeding “in public”. They are “all-in” with the War on Women strategy. They will come out in droves claiming they were forced to cover-up somewhere at sometime and how humiliated they were by it.
I’m hoping the public “faces” of conservatives just ignore it. Priebus and Romney should STFU, too.
The whole sordid thing is right on the periphery of incest. That’s what it’s meant to represent.
Biological mother or not, it’s borderline child pornography, when you consider how everything must’ve been directed and staged.
Yes, when they're not prematurely killing their babies, they're demanding to flop their breast out anywhere they damn well please, because breast-feeding is sacred, dammit!

Zactly.
Dionna Ford of Kansas City, Mo., and her children, ages 4 years and 5 months.
"I don't think about when I'll stopfor us, it's a life philosophy."
His parents better not send him to the same schools as the Romney grandchildren. Bullying is in the genes, dontcha' know!
When the kid is old enough to walk in and give his own order at McDonald’s then breast feeding stops having anything to do with the development of the kid or his health and everything to do with the mother.
In the digital age we live in now that picture will haunt this little guy for the rest of his life.
