Follow up: The company that makes the device gave her a new one for free. It’s still a stupid thing that TSA did.

They have finally done it. They have conclusively demonstrated that life would be better without the TSA.
The islamic terrorists hit once in a while, but the TSA's terrorism is a guaranteed experience every time you fly commercial.
Is this really the best we can do?
Are we better with this forced submission to a legislated "higher" authority's abuse for their appearance of safety?
Doesn't look that way.

"They need to get with the program and have some education across the board for TSA." No, they need to disban the TSA and use credible screening methods ... like profiling.

Remind me again, Jorge, why you had to Federalize airport security in the first place. Really improved our quality of life, thanks a lot.

Insulin pumps are spendy. But not 5 figures spendy. Last one I had to buy my wife was 3500.
well worth it.
We don’t fly. Wife is afraid of these very things happening.

I guess they broke it because they couldn't figure out a way to steal and fence it. It's not like a iPod or a camera which you can enjoy yourself even if you can't sell lit.

We have a doctors letter for our type 1 son when we travel.
But have never needed it; the TSA folks have always been ok to deal with on the pump and insulin issue.

A Colorado teen is upset with screeners at Salt Lake City International Airport. The type one diabetic says TSA agents were abrupt, rude and were responsible for breaking her $10,000 insulin pump. A pump she has to have to survive.Besides, 16 years of life is plenty.

The TSA should have well known that the full body scanners can damage insulin pumps and with the doctors note and total cooperation from the teen should have done the pat down. However, idiocy is rampant in the TSA and if I were the girl's father I would be suing the TSA agents responsible personally for at least the cost of the replacement pump. Good lord what will these scanners do to cardiac pacemakers?
Our local airport recently got a full body scanner and the TSA runs EVERYONE through it and doesn't bother with the metal detector. I suppose they have to justify the use of their new toy.

“gahnzo55,” at the news site behind the link, argued against the young woman and in favor of TSA on the issue. “Get tough on crime,” eh? Republicrats! No vote, no sale.
Either fight the high intensity foreign war, or enjoy your police state protection of the political regulator class from the 99%.
