The average student gets nothing from football programs that remain sacrosanct despite tuition increases.
“The primary purpose of higher education: academics.”
BWHAHAHAHA. Truth is, it’s all about the $$$.
Because the never gave Boise State a shot at the title.
Neither does a degree in journalism.
Why Hell, let’s just ban all sports, nothing but a waste of money.....
Because my name is Buzz Bissinger and I was teased a lot by the school jocks?
So now we have class warfare against college football.
Well, football usually pays the bills for non-spectator sports. Get rid of football and watch others disappear.
I think the author is a miserable person.
It’s not just football that needs banning. The NCAA is as much a part of the funding (and anti-educational) problem as football.
Upon the fields of friendly strife
Are sown the seeds
That, upon other fields, on other days
Will bear the fruits of victory. —GEN Douglas MacArthur
The NFL would never approve of the elimination of their free farm system.
Way to open your mouth again, Buzzzzzz. The idiot.
Now NO minorities would be going to college to learn ANY academics.
Here’s a guy who made millions from writing a book about my hometown high school football team. He is the only one who made any money — not the players, not the coaches, not the community. His pompous cynicism destroyed a thrill of watching some high school kids play football to those who just actually enjoy watching sports.
What’s that envy called that he has?
Before TV came along....NCAA football might have been pure. But I think since the 1960s...it’s just the minor leagues of the NFL. Every single kid on a college team ought to be making a minimum of $12k a year, with the free tuition. Same deal for NCAA basketball.
BWHAHAHAHA. Truth is, its all about the $$$.
The primary purpose of education is liberal elete employment and indoctrination.
Which is why it has no place, and never HAS had any place, on a college campus.
Set up a "farm league" system like baseball has and pay these semi-professionals to train there. And if the rest of the athletic programs can't afford to finance themselves, then they go away too. If students want those physical activities, they can form independent intramural clubs and exercise to their hearts' content. But get these ape-training programs out of our colleges and off our campuses!
And time. I always ask my sports fan friends, to what end are they loyally rooting for these teams? Especially with professional sports. Wether it be baseball, football, basketball or whatever. It just goes on and on, season after season, with no end. Some of these teams have been around for 80+ years. Where is it going? Even if the ultimate goal is reached, and "your" team wins the championship, the whole damn thing just reboots the following season. Dumbest crap ever. Plus, the fans get nothing out of it anyway. These fans root, and cheer and get emotional on levels like nothing else, and they don't even stop to think that there is nothing in it for them.
Buzz off Buzz. You think like liberal democrat and write like a fool as you are a fool.
Why College Funding Should Be Banned...
Now, legal plunder can be committed in an infinite number of ways. Thus we have an infinite number of plans for organizing it: tariffs, protection, benefits, subsidies, encouragements, progressive taxation, PUBLIC SCHOOLS, guaranteed jobs, guaranteed profits, minimum wages, a right to relief, a right to the tools of labor, free credit, and so on, and so on. All these plans as a whole with their common aim of legal plunder constitute socialism. - Frederic Bastiat 1801-1850

It can be done...

Title IX has done FAR more damage to college varsity sports than football ever will.

Not quite the most embarrassing display of ignorance of the subject matter I've on FR, but definitely up there.
