Obama: 'New York girlfriend' was composite
Politico ^ | 5/2/12 | Dylan Byers

One of the more mysterious characters from President Obama's 1995 autobiography Dreams From My Father is the so-called 'New York girlfriend.' Obama never referred to her by name, or even by psuedonym, but he describes her appearance, her voice, and her mannerisms in specific detail. But Obama has now told biographer David Maraniss that the 'New York girlfriend' was actually a composite character, based off of multiple girlfriends he had both in New York City and in Chicago

They have to go with this composite lie because Obama’s old girlfriend says the description is not her and the book actually describes Ayers’ girlfriend.

Dogbert, you would assume at least a few people here at FR would be semi-conscious. Did you ever read 'Deconstructing Obama' by Jack Cashill, Ph.D? Bill Ayers wrote Dreams. The NY girl was Diana Oughton, a marxist terrorist from an elitist Long Island family. She was Ayers LOVE and died in an explosion while constructing a bomb. He fabricated 'Genevieve' becuase he KNEW Obama was a homosexual. Michelle is a beard he needed to become electable, even in a hell hole like Illinois.

Why don't you do a little homework before posting such silly comments. You people amaze me.

'Auduacity' was written by Obama's speechwriter wunderkind, Jon Favreau. There, now you're smart!

Sounds like the Zero-team is afraid (more) evidence of Zero’s homo-hood is going to surface.

Yep. The Homosexual equivalent of a bimbo-eruption... (Jimbo Eruption?)

the 'New York girlfriend' was actually a composite character, based off of multiple girlfriends he had both in New York City and in Chicago

She was lovely with her one breast larger than the other but her long leg and short leg were slightly offputting. However the glasses she did and did not wear went perfectly with her blond, brown, short, long, red hair. And her beautiful lips could barely conceal her under/overbite and her perfect, slightly, crooked teeth.

Years ago there was a writer for a local newspaper who (IIRC) made up composite characters. None existed in any form. That writer was fired, IIRC.

Imho, any "composite character" is likely the same thing, and in this case, I doubt any "girlfriend" ever existed.

Remember Janet Cook of the Washington Post who got a Pulitzer Prize for her composite character Little Jimmy?

And of course, the greatest composite character of all time, IMHO, Deep Throat?

I do recall Janet Cook. Two others are Patricia Smith and Mike Barnicle of the Boston Globe.

FYI Regarding Janet Cooke. Sorry I misspelled her name as Cook in my earlier post, which could have been misleading.

In 1980, Cooke joined the "Weeklies" section staff of the Washington Post under editor Vivian Aplin-Brownlee.

Cooke falsely claimed she had a degree from Vassar College, a master's degree from the University of Toledo, and had received a journalism award while at the Toledo Blade.

While Cooke had attended Vassar for a year, she had only received a bachelor's degree from Toledo.

(As a legitimate Affirmative Action hire she did not have to claim she was part Indian.)

"Jimmy's World"

In an article titled "Jimmy's World", which appeared in the Post on September 28, 1980, Cooke wrote a gripping profile of the life of an 8-year-old heroin addict. She described the "needle marks freckling the baby-smooth skin of his thin, brown arms."

The story engendered much sympathy among readers, including Marion Barry, then mayor of Washington, D.C. He and other city officials organized an all-out police search for the boy, which was unsuccessful and led to claims that the story was fraudulent.

Barry, responding to public pressure, lied and claimed that Jimmy was known to the city and receiving treatment; he was announced dead shortly after.

(Another guy named Barry lied! GASP!)

Fallout

Although some within the Post doubted the story's veracity, the Post defended it and assistant managing editor Bob Woodward (himself no stranger to composite figures) submitted the story for the Pulitzer Prize. Cooke was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing on April 13, 1981.

When the editors of the Toledo Blade, where Cooke had previously worked, read her biographical notes, they noticed a number of discrepancies. Further investigation revealed that Cooke's academic credentials were inflated. Pressured by the editors of the Post, Cooke confessed her guilt.

Two days after the prize had been awarded, Post publisher Donald E. Graham held a press conference and admitted that the story was fraudulent. The editorial in the next day's paper offered a public apology.

Assistant managing editor Woodward said (Hey Bernstein and I did it with Deep Throat so what's the big deal, why let a little thing like truth get in the way of a great story?) at the time: "I believed it, we published it. Official questions had been raised, but we stood by the story and her. Internal questions had been raised, but none about her other work. The reports were about the story not sounding right, being based on anonymous sources, and primarily about purported lies [about] her personal life – [told by three reporters], two she had dated and one who felt in close competition with her. I think that the decision to nominate the story for a Pulitzer is of minimal consequence. I also think that it won is of little consequence. It is a brilliant story—fake and fraud that it is. It would be absurd for me or any other editor to review the authenticity or accuracy of stories that are nominated for prizes."

(And that boys and girls is the essence of MSM news reporting. Why let a little thing like the truth deter from a great story?)

Cooke resigned and returned the Prize. She appeared on the Phil Donahue show in January 1982, and said that the high-pressure environment of the Post had corrupted her judgment. (In other words, they MADE me do it!)She said that her sources had hinted to her about the existence of a boy such as Jimmy, but unable to find him, she eventually created a story about him in order to satisfy her editors. (They MADE me do it.)

Amazing, isn’t it? And yet so many “journalists” believe that they are exalted above we ordinary folk.

“Bill Ayers had a girlfriend who closely resembled the one described in “Dreams...” - she is the one who got blown up”

Very convenient - Ayers’ dead girlfriend. No one to track down, no one to interview, etc.

Yes, very convenient....
