We are the Free Republic Pre-War on Terror Class of Freepers.
Having been a freeper for over a decade, and having experienced both a pre 9/11 presence here and a post 9/11 presence, having experienced the Hanging Chad Wars of GW's first election, Sore Loserman and all, what stands out for you regarding the growth of Free Republic over the years.
What are your thoughts on the independence of Free Republic, and Jim Robinson's decision to go advertisement free all these years. My first thought is that his financial independence is what has freed him to tell the GOP-E to stick it in their ear this year.
If he had to worry about sponsors dropping him, or well-heeled pubbies supporting him, that might have intimidated a lesser man.
We've been blessed these many years. What stands out for you in your decades plus experience on Free Republic?

Been around FR for a lot of years. It has been, is, and will remain my political stabilizer. All other news sites are only peripheral to FR.
I tried to locate that JonBenet “Thailand” thread in search but couldn’t locate it. If I recall correctly, about 45 out of the first 50 responses were “Thailand?” - All within a matter of a couple of minutes. One of the funniest occurrences ever here on FR.

Really! Most freepers celebrated for weeks. Maybe that is another one of NS’s aliases.
I spent a lot of time in that MS chat room, over a period of a couple of years. Had a great time with those peeps. I haven’t seen any reference to Doctor Raoul on this thread. He hasn’t been around for a while now.
I agree wholeheartedly, Helen. Free Republic is the very first site I go to when I click the machine on. I go to it for news, commentary, religion, humor, fun, chit-chat, and just stream of consciousness clicking and reading.
I believe the best religion discussions anywhere on the web take place on Free Republic.
I believe the best news commentary takes place here.
I believe the most principled conservatism takes place here.
And, I believe it is really, really quick in getting the news out. For example, the Junior Seau suicide was on FR yesterday only minutes after it was released to the public.
FR beat every newspaper, and probably most broadcast media.
