The first Iron Dome anti-rocket system, was deployed on 'operational evaluation' near Beer Sheva in the Israeli Negev desert on March 2011. Weeks later it successfully engaged multiple salvos of 122mm rockets fired from Gaza at the city.

I see two possible reasons for this demand. The first is that the US wants in on proprietary data the Israelis have but have not shared; and it also wants a veto on who the Israelis can sell the system to. And these are both important.

That proprietary data is important to the US so it can learn how to overcome Iron Dome if necessary, or repair what others have done to overcome it. Of secondary importance to develop its own systems. (Though I think the US should be developing 3 or 4 generations beyond Iron Dome for our purposes).

The veto is very important, because several very important pieces of Israeli military tech have already leaked to nations we do not want to get such technology. Israel might make confidentiality and use agreements with other countries, but it cannot enforce those agreements.

This article is BS. I know personally that the US Missile Command in Huntsville Alabama has ample access to the research and development for the entire Arrow Missile Program. Same goes for other allied research and development along the same lines of technology from both Germany and Japan. Maybe the truth lies in this article not being aware that there are more allied research efforts and the US military actaully has the fourth program... all independent of one another but assuredly with input from Israel, Germany and Japan the US program is the most advanced.

I’m just amazed at how, at the same time that much of the Left is becoming openly anti-Israel, some conservatives have let themselves get to the point where they are more pro-Israel than pro-America. Neither path is a good one.

Is this money part of the Camp David welfare - the same payments that Egypt gets? If so, then legally, Israel doesn't owe us any rights at all, since this is essentially part of a no-strings-attached structural settlement. But it certainly reminds the taxpayers of the kind of techno wonders Israel produces, while our billions to Egypt might as well have been burned in a giant bonfire. We've given perhaps $40 billion to Egypt and all they've produced is a Muslim Brotherhood government, and necrophilia laws for widowed husbands.

Set up a deal with India, and tell the slavemaster to go scr*w himself.

The US is not an ally.

And idea on the size of that system? It looks like it would be transportable on whatever can haul a 20 foot container.

For an amusing development through the looking glass....

http://news.yahoo.com/levin-obama-deserves-credit-israels-iron-dome-103932890—politics.html

Now apparently this is a success created by Obama... despite him initially not approving funds... despite it taking Congress to force the issue... now he’s the one responsible for it and deserves some thanks.
