Regulation: For centuries, children have played an indispensable role in family farms. Their efforts have been and still are often essential to survival. But the nanny state wants to outlaw their contributions.
What do the Labor Department bureaucrats in urban, elitist Washington who are writing the rule that would prohibit children under 18 from working on farms know about farm culture?
How familiar are they with agricultural society and its age-old traditions and its timeless demands? Who are they to interfere with a way of life that has been the backbone of America?
None of that matters to the busybodies and petty tyrants of the federal government. They will force their rules on others because they believe in their moral and intellectual superiority — particularly over a people they see as hayseeds in fly-over country.
Farming has inherent dangers. We won't dispute that.
The machinery can be lethal. It is also hard work. It's not a cushy and counterproductive government job that pays more than productive private-sector work.
What farming also isn't is a domain of private life that the federal government can take over.
Should the Obama Labor Department get its way, farm kids under 18 will no longer be allowed to work in grain elevators, silos and feed lots, or at stockyards and livestock auctions.

And this regulation will be just a court action away from some turd making it illegal for kids to do any chores around a house...any house.
This is just Hillary Clinton pushing her UN children’s rights agenda which is no more and no less than the Soviet-style state claiming that children are the property of the state.
Spent the day calling anyone and everyone who would listen. Last I heard the proposal was being withdrawn......for now. Vigilance.

I was raised in a rural area and still live in one. There is NOTHING wrong with kids participating in a family farm.
Of course it would be far better that they play Farmville on the computer I guess.
It goes WAY beyond “private property” and into the intimate role of governmnent being “mommy and daddy”—destroying the family unit—destroying loyalty to mother and father-—creating enemies in the family structure. Putting the State in between the raising of children so the State creates their worldview.
It is all about preventing children from becoming mature, independent adults. They want stupid, cowed, dysfunctional people who depend on government. Farming is the most independent way of life—and what sustained my grandfather’s large family—fed all his kids during the Great Depression. Never had government handouts and NEVER went into debt.
Abe Lincoln would have been considered a dangerous radical and on a terrorist list..and his parents would have been put in prison and all their children removed from their parents.
Heck. I would have been taken away from my parents with laws like these as would my children. Responsibility, intelligence and independence is learned by working in childhood......like Ben Franklin, Carnegie, Mark Twain, Edison, Lincoln, Wright Bros, etc.—all great geniuses.
It is the Brave New World.....where government determines how to raise your children—and they want slaves for the State. Religious individuals are dangerous—especially people loyal to their families and God. They might resist orders from the government god.

Fifteen years of my daughters helping me with chores developed a good head on their shoulders. One is in law school, and one is studying to be an architect. Both cried while putting up hay every summer, performed surgery on mamma livestock after pushing out their uterus and the baby (both stitched closed with a shoelace from their Converse sneakers), gave tens of thousands of immunization shots, laid fencing every year, fed bottle-babies at two hour intervals at 20 below zero, managed to train two herding dogs who were champions, run a backhoe and skidsteer, and made me proud. They did all this thru the ages of 8 to 22. Drove trucks, tractors, haybines, brush hogs, balers, and oh yeah........the farm airplane.
I pitty what's left of our next generation by the time government programming is thru.

Under HHS and other Obamamaniacs, the word parent is no longer to be used. The new term is “Resident Guardian”.
You didn’t mention that they also learned how to shoot, which I will just assume to be self-evident.
It’s a pity how many kids today are not taught how to properly use and respect a firearm.

I fear that the character building experiences they had will be denied to future generations.
The pistol I have when fired near livestock creates a wave of panic in the barn which does not settle down for days among the stock. Not to mention it does not always deliver instantaneous results, thus needing more shots fired. The hammer is instant, merciful, and personal.
The girls were not big hunters. The freezer always had plenty of meat from what we raised which didn't go to market or sale at auctions.
Well, well, well. It seems the Regime has backed off on banning children from working on family farms.

Except they have not backed off, they have just postponed their edicts until after the election so it’s important to get your butt to the polls on Nov. 6 and vote BO out!
