RUSH: I want to take you back to this program February 27th, this year, mere weeks ago. I was talking about the Republican Party. They were angry. They weren't being public with their anger, but I was hearing about it through surrogates. They were angry at me for talking about social issues. "Don't talk about 'em, Rush, the social issues, independents don't want to hear about abortion, that stuff, please." Here's what I said
RUSH ARCHIVE: The Republican establishment in panic over the fact I'm killing the party. And you know how I'm killing the party? By not relegating discussion of social issues to the ash heap. They don't want it talked about. Oh, no, they just can't handle it being discussed. They think it's gonna send the independents driving away and the electoral history of this is anything but.
RUSH: That's right. The electoral history. And I was talking, there was a book. Jeffrey Bell wrote a book about how social issues being predominant in the Republican Party has led to presidential victory. And this was the point that I was making. This is an illustration about how the inside-the-Beltway Republicans are out of touch and don't get it and how northeastern liberal Republicans are scared to death of the abortion issue, when they win with it. So I want to follow this up with Brian Kilmeade today on Fox & Friends. They just had a new Fox presidential poll out. Listen to Kilmeade here.
KILMEADE: Among independents, the key voting bloc, who would you vote for if the election was today, 46 to 33, Mitt Romney, a dominant lead.
RUSH: Now, you heard him say "the key voting bloc." See, that's my pet peeve. "So here's Kilmeade. Among independents, the key voting bloc, who would you vote for if the election was today?" Romney up by 13 among independents. And that's after six weeks of this phony war on women stuff that was supposed to send independents running back to the Democrats. Don't buy it. Don't believe the conventional wisdom.

“Social issues” are a luxury we enjoyed during the “good times”; they have little impact when many people are borrowing for groceries.
When income tax forms have a place to fill in credit card info to make your tax payment, and gas stations switch to digital signs to facilitate frequent price fluctuations (usually upward), nobody cares about “social issues”.
My gauge of the economy is simple & reliable (and still portends trouble): the number of wheat pennies and bicentennial quarters I receive in my change. It leads me to believe Obama will lose by a wide margin in November; libs may not admit voting for the Republican candidate, but I’m sure some of these coins were in libs’ pockets a week ago.
Wit, you mean that the GOP could nominate an actual conservative instead of a RINO, and still be in good shape?????
NOW they tell us!
The primary turnouts were pitiful (which is typical of primaries). Whether the average Republican really does think a Mitt is better than a Newt, this doesn’t tell us at all.
I’m an Independent BECAUSE the Republican Party has sold out on social issues.
That statement proves that you have no clue how things work.
“When income tax forms have a place to fill in credit card info to make your tax payment, and gas stations switch to digital signs to facilitate frequent price fluctuations (usually upward), nobody cares about social issues.”
Really?
I would venture that 50+million murdered babies and a fair share of their mothers now care about “social issues”.
When California is trying to pass a law making it illegal to counsel anyone under the age of 18 so that they turn away from homosexuality, EVEN IF THEIR PARENTS OR THE INDIVIDUALS WANT the counseling, I’d say that more & more people are caring about “social issues”.
You need to get your head out of your wallet and look around.
East Coast sophisticates, liberal arts-college grads (who have perhaps been deliberately and maliciously maleducated for the last 80 years), neocons and Yacht Club brokers-grown-great all go nuts when social issues come up, and they revile people in Flyover Country, in the South especially, and anywhere Not Megalopolis in general. This produces a major cleavage and political lameness in the GOP. Check this screed:
http://tinyurl.com/6w37svfIt's as if the Eastern half of the GOP is working with half a brain, because they're bigoted against the other half.
Even if the platitude that social issues drive away independent voters were true, we still abandon them at our own risk. First, because abandoning them will drive away Conservative voters, who are a larger and more reliable voting bloc for the GOP than independents, and second, because if both parties abandon social issues, then we become Europe, and we already know how that story ends.
Ping to my last, Jersey guy.
By the way, I don't grok your reference to wheat-ear pennies. Do you mean pennies coming out of bureau drawers and old piggy banks?
An open sewer is still a sewer, even if it is within its budget and fiscally sound.
It doesn't cut both ways?
And they're equal halves?
....the liberals, and especially gays, do a huge victory dance.
Movement gays (the Log Cabins, the Republican Unity Coalition, GOProud) have been trying to deprive family-values "breeders" of a social and political voice in the GOP for 15 years now, and the Bush family and the RNC have been their vehicles ... and their seraglio.
....then we become Europe, and we already know how that story ends.
Come Nineveh, come Tyre, the Jews are still here because they kept the laws and taught their children the concepts of family purity. Where is Babylon now? You need an antiquities map to find it.
As for their mothers, if they don't have to care about the 1st order basics of survival - food, clothing, shelter... then I'd hazard that they might.
But until the basics are met, that's all they'll be interested in.
Saving the unborn is more of a 3rd order level of need (after both the physical basics of life are met and safety/security is met).
See Maslow's heirarchy of needs.
No, Europe has it's own social agenda, which... in essence, boils down to a 'freedom from want'. And that is destroying them.
And, as I am sure you have noticed because you've been paying attention, the Eastern GOP has been methodically shafting the rest of the GOP, for some time now. As for the neocons -- read the linked shibboleth (in the old Hebrew sense) obsecrating Sarah Palin.
We've talked about this. The Weekly Standard's crusade against Southern Republicans from 1995 forward. The borking of social conservative pols by the Downtown Crowd. McCain, and now Romney: Jack open their mouths and just cram McCain and Romney down their throats with a boot.
Stuff like that. You may have noticed.
Only idiots remove “social issues” from economics. Social conditions determine the economics. To think “social issues are a luxury” is like saying you can be a human being with no emotions. It can’t happen-—if it does—it is a worthless life and inhumane.
All Founders stated (and all history knew since Plato) that without Virtue there is no Freedom-—none. Trust/loyalty/Justice/Wisdom/Courage are “Social Issues” which Marxism destroys—on purpose—because without Trust—no ecomomic system can exist without totalitarian control.
This Western ideology—perfected by Christian Theology—is what creates a successful society—a culture which can flourish—because of trust and unity. We are being destroyed by destroying all virtue—all morality—The Judeo/Christian concept of God—it is what the Cultural Marxists planned in the 30’s to destroy Western Civilization through Atheist control of schools.
They did it in England and Europe with a socialist (Atheist) takeover in the 20th Century-—they controlled the language to control the ideas and education—brainwashing people into thinking you can remove Virtue from Man and still have a civil society....CAN’T———CS Lewis wrote about it in his Abolition of Man and predicted the destruction of England—and the future removal of Churchillian Christian ideals. He was right as Dalrymple documents.
Of course not. Don’t you know that social conservatives are on a mission from G-d. Doubting them is doubting G-d!
APOSTATE!!!
We're conservatives. We're smart enough to multi-task.
