Rubio Praises U.N., World Bank, IMF for Not Asserting ‘Narrow American Interests’

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who was elected to his first term with help from the Tea Party in 2010 and who is sometimes cited as a potential GOP vice presidential pick, lauded the United Nations, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for following their respective visions instead of asserting “narrow American interests” in a speech today on U.S. foreign policy.

In remarks at the liberal Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., Rubio sketched the advances made globally since the end of World War II as a result of America’s leadership.

“The purpose of the institutions we established, from the United Nations to the World Bank and the IMF was to spread peace and prosperity, not to assert narrow American interests,” said Sen. Rubio.

[...]

In his initial remarks, Sen. Rubio sought to separate himself from some conservatives in the Senate on foreign policy, saying that until recently the general view was that American conservatism “believed in a robust and muscular foreign policy,” citing Presidents George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. talbott

“But when I arrived in the Senate last year, I found that some of the traditional sides in the foreign policy debate had shifted,” said Rubio. “On the one hand I found liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans working together to advocate our withdrawal from Afghanistan or staying out of Libya. On the other hand, I found myself partnering with Democrats … on a more forceful foreign policy.”

“So I recently joked, the other day, that today in the U.S. Senate, on foreign policy, the further you move to the right, the likelier you are to move to the left,” said Rubio.

Its Rubio that is asserting himself here....He cosponsor SOPA/PIPA, it was he that is working on a DREAM ACT II...He is talking up being more of an interventionist and supports more foreign aid

Sarah was trashed by the Establishment for not being one of them, the Establishment is supporting Rubio and Rubio seems to be supporting the Establishment little by little

Marco loved getting the tea party support to put him over the top and beat Crist for the senate seat but a month or two later he was already distancing himself from the tea party. He’s no conservative. Another centrist republican already co-opted by the GOP establishment.

Rubio would be a poor choice for VP as the eligibility lawsuits would be filed immediately and it would just bring unecessary chaos to the GOP presidential campaign.

Marco Rubio is an outstanding politician with a strong conservative background. He does come across very impressively and can do great service to America.

Rubio has only one thing to distract from his political stardom..... he is not elegible for President or any office which could result in being President, unless of course conservatives decide to join the anti-American left in ignoring the Constitution. I wish that were not the case, but it is.

Romney was a major Democrat donor back in the day. He's really not different now.

Stop, think, why did this guy leave Utah to get into politics somewhere else.

"What next? How Demint is a rino and yet another posting about how we are giving away Alaska islands to Russia?
You've got it. For some on FR, ideological purity and perfection are required character traits in a candidate--perfect according to the poster, of course, which means no one escapes being called "RINO."

The word on FR has become as meaningless as the attribution of "racist" coming out of a liberal's mouth.

Haley Barbour - "RINO," Marco Rubio - "RINO," Newt Gingrich - "RINO," Rick Perry - "RINO," Allen West - "RINO" . . . etc.

Marco gave a really magnificent speech and made the case for Republicans/conservatives that Obama's a failure.

Exactly...of all of the states he could have chosen, he chose the most liberal one of all, that speaks volumes.

Re: the formation of the United Nations

“Alger Hiss (November 11, 1904 – November 15, 1996) was an American lawyer, government official, author, and lecturer. He was involved in the establishment of the United Nations both as a U.S. State Department and U.N. official. Hiss was accused of being a Soviet spy in 1948 and convicted of perjury in connection with this charge in 1950.

On August 3, 1948, Whittaker Chambers, a former Communist Party member, testified under subpoena before the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC) that Hiss had secretly been a Communist while in federal service. Chambers had previously testified under oath that Hiss had never been a Communist or a spy, and Chambers would admit, under oath, to other instances where he had committed perjury under oath. Called before HUAC, Hiss categorically denied the charge. When Chambers repeated his claim on nationwide radio, Hiss filed a defamation lawsuit against him.

During the pretrial discovery process, Chambers produced new evidence indicating that he and Hiss had been involved in espionage, which both men had previously denied under oath to HUAC. A federal grand jury indicted Hiss on two counts of perjury; Chambers admitted to the same offense but, as a cooperating government witness, was never charged. Although Hiss’s indictment stemmed from the alleged espionage, he could not be tried for that crime because the statute of limitations had expired.”

7 of the 10 official candidates for the nomination had substantial histories as Democrats ~ as public officials, as donors, as workers, as,.....,

That's your first definition of RINO. We don't even need to address the finer subtleties that eek over into ideological differences ~ we got a problem with Republicans. We are running short!

What mush. And to think I once thought this guy brought hope to the Republican party. More of the same weak-kneed BS.
