Republican Arthur Kohl-Riggs running against Walker in recall primary

MADISON — Arthur Kohl-Riggs dresses as Abraham Lincoln and says he is a better representative of the Republican Party than Gov. Scott Walker. Kohl-Riggs is running against Walker in the upcoming gubernatorial recall primary. Kohl-Riggs is one of the placeholder candidates running in the race.

23-year-old Kohl-Riggs made a name for himself as the “Abe Lincoln Protester” during the budget battle. Now, he’s running as a Republican in the recall primary against Walker.

“I’m running as a Republican in the Wisconsin gubernatorial election against Scott Walker because Wisconsin has a long and proud tradition of progressive Republicans. The party was actually founded in Wisconsin as a pro-labor, abolitionist party,” Kohl-Riggs said.

Kohl-Riggs says he’s not a “placeholder,” but says his presence on the ballot should ensure Republicans vote for Walker, and don’t cross over into the Democratic Party.

“I think Walker is the ‘fake Republican.’ He doesn’t instill any of the values of the party of Lincoln. I’m encouraging anyone who my message resonates with to vote for me in the primary,” Kohl-Riggs said.

Walker has called Kohl-Riggs a sideshow. “My opponents are not the people on my ballot. My opponents are the out-of-state union bosses in Washington,” Walker said.

Meanwhile, some top Republicans like state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and state Representative Robin Vos have openly talked about Republican voters crossing over into the Democratic primary. “Will some do it? I’m sure some will. It’s an open primary,” Vos said.

That brought harsh criticism from Democratic candidates.

“Let’s be honest about this – it’s disgusting,” Secretary of State Doug LaFollette said.

“They don’t want the same old politics. They’re tired of being told who to vote for,” Kathleen Vinehout said.

Walker says the “placeholders” serve a purpose. “The best thing that happened out of all of that is that all of the elections will be on June 5th. I’ve had so many people tell me that whether they’re Republican or Democrat, there’s real confusion about May 8 and June 5. I think everybody wants the recall election to be on the same day,” Walker said.

There is also a “placeholder” candidate running for governor on the Democratic side. Her name is Gladys Huber. She also served as a placeholder candidate in the Senate recall last summer.

Just got my absentee ballot for the Wisconsin gubernatorial recall primary. Was surprised to see Arthur Kohl-Riggs running against Walker. Sure hope no one votes for him.

How can a 23-year old legally run for Governor ? Isn’t there a minimum age requirement that would require tossing him off the ballot ?

Yeah, a 23-year-old pro-labor progressive is a credible candidate in a Republican primary to be governor of the state.

Regardless of what happens, Scott Walker has already won.

If Walker gets the most votes, Scott Walker wins.

If someone else gets the most votes, the unions step back in and what is now a thriving state returns to a state sinking under the weight of corruption - that also amounts to a win for Scott Walker since the people have already tasted better under Walker’s leadership.

The Democrats and the Unions ought to face facts and fold their musty tents. They are history in Wisconsin!

“So is he a Neo-Democrat?”

No, just a average run of the mill Republican. The outsiders are conservative Republicans. Becoming rarer by the day.

†No person may hold any state or local elected office in Wisconsin if the person has been convicted of a felony in any court in the United States unless the person has been pardoned of the conviction. Nobody 18 years old should be running for a major statewide office. Minimum age requirement for statewide ought to be 30, same with U.S. Senators. State legislature ought to be 25.

Me too!

I have no problem voting for Gov. Walker and no one else should either. He has done soooooooo much to improve Wis. since taking office, to remove him now would be insane”. But then again, there is Madison and Milwaukee where there are a lot of insane people running around loose.

Right. If this state were sane, the 14 who ran away to IL to delay the vote would have already lost their jobs by the time they came back to WI.

Lots of people are born with hyphenated last names because of their stupid parents.

I’d leave it up to the voters. Jason Plummer our legitimate LT Governor elect here in IL (and hopefully soon Congressman from the 12th district) was under 30 when elected IIRC.

Now a MAXIMUM age I could get behind. Or lieu of that mandatory senility tests for anyone over 80.

Interesting story, last year some 11 year old girl won a contest to be “Mayor for a Day” of a small town in Texas. She renamed a street after Justin Bieber.

As for this idiot’s “pro-labor” comment, I may have been pro-labor too back in the bay before labor unions became worse than the robber barons of old that they opposed. And last time I checked GOP is still against slavery. Charlie Rangel and other democrats who have called for mandatory national service are the only ones still for it.

Of the two, Falk polls weaker than Barrett against Gov. Walker.

May 8 is the Primary. June 5 (I think) is the recall.
