The table referred to in the text can be seen at the link.
I do not believe that poverty causes crime, at least after certain basic needs for food and shelter are met, as they have been in the United States for many decades. Poor people do not need to steal to eat in the United States. In the United States, poor people are fat.
In fact, it is exactly the opposite: Crime causes poverty.

The British are subjects, Americans are citizens. (as long as we have guns)
To: marktwain
There are approximately 90 guns for every 100 people in the US (a rate almost 15 times higher than England and Wales). Funny, Gallup states that only 38% of American households report having a firearm.

We had a conversation with the Brits a long time ago and told them what we think about their opinions.
The Brits are now busily removing the sharp points from their kitchen knives and I expect Styrofoam cricket bats will be next.

That’s because a lot of gun owners, like me, have more than one. I’m behind my older brother who has about ten. In fact, here in Wisconsin, many people (Dems and Republicans) have multiple firearms. But the homicide rate in the great majority of cities and towns in Wisconsin, not including Milwaukee, have a homicide rate approximately the same as many gun-free European areas. Because most gun owners here are civilized people for whom it does occur that shooting someone for nothing makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, I caught that. Actually the cause is greed, lust for power and tribalism.

What do you expect from someone who comes from a nation that has gone completely mad and insane and is also leading the West into the abyss of mass death and destruction.
Time to nuke the island from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

I would have had six but for that boating accident a couple of years ago.

Tribalism plays a large part. Each new human has to be civilized and taught respect for other people, other people's property, and morals. When that is not done, young men tend to revert to the default position, which tends to be a low grade of tribalism or a childish attitude of rights without responsibility.
Christians might refer to this as original sin, which amounts to the same thing as the lower level instincts that evolutionists would refer to.
To: Hodar
Even if I DID own a gun, I wouldn't tell Gallup the truth, either. Lost all my guns in a tragic boating accident in early 2009. January 21st.

You had a conversation with ‘the Brits’ did you? Well, I am a Brit, and we aren’t a homogenous group you know. I’m not a raving liberal and I rather like shooting...
To: marktwain
This idiot hits almost every liberal cliche I can think of . . . my favorite is poverty causes violence . . . LOL!!!
All you have to do is perform a simple demographics analysis of race v. poverty v. violence to discover that blacks are responsible for a disproportionate amount of the violence reported in our crime stats--and most of that against each other within their own communities.
Look solely at the murder/violent crimes rate of WHITE Americans and suddenly American violent crime stats drops to a level equal to or lower than all of those Euro-snarks.
