Friend, I started my day off with the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. I was on the field, just down the first base line, with the folks on MSNBC's news show, "Morning Joe."
Early on, Joe Scarborough asked me, "What's the thing you hear about most on the campaign trail" that [the news isn't'] covering?"
[snipped video]
...I told Joe: the biggest issue that nobody is talking about is the cost of education and student loans, whether for college or technical school or other training needed to get a good job. ["Biggest issue? Huh?]
Every day out on the campaign trail, I hear from moms and dads who desperately want their kids to get the education they need, but they see the costs spiraling out of control. And I hear from students who did everything right -- worked hard, played by the rules and got a diploma -- but have been left drowning in debt with few job prospects in sight.
Now here's something I didn't get a chance to talk about on "Morning Joe."
Five years ago, Congress passed the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, which reduced interest rates for college loans -- Stafford Loans subsidized by the government -- from 6.8% to today's 3.4% rates. That provision expires on July 1st -- just a little over two months from now. If Congress doesn't act, college loan interest rates will double -- making a mountain of debt even higher. I've raised this issue before and called on Congress to do something about it. Time is running out. We need to invest in people who work hard to get an education. We need to make education and training higher priorities than protecting subsidies for oil companies and special tax breaks for billionaires. The way we spend our money shows our values -- and I value people who work hard to build a future.
Join me in telling Congress to take action and stop the doubling of student loan interest rates this summer. Our kids and our families can't wait any longer. It was great to be at Fenway today to celebrate the anniversary and to use that chance to speak about an issue that will make a big difference to millions of people. Now, I'm settling in to watch the game!
Elizabeth Warren
You heard it here first.
Best way the government can help students get out from under a lot of Student Loans is to stop co-signing for them.
The cost of higher education is crazy. When the government started footing the bill, the prices went up to $30-$40,000 a year. It’s nuts.
Jews need to stand up to anti-semitism.

You are correct.
The head regent of the Calif state university/college system is advocating for FREE education past 12th grade.
Sure-—let the guy who runs his own business & never got beyond 11th grade because of a death of his dad foot the bill for these whiners.
Who put a gun to their head forcing them to sign up for those loans? They didn’t think they had to pay them back? Now they want taxpayers to foot the bill? If you can’t pay tuition, don’t go and then come out with a degree in Medieval History or Classical Studies with a loan of $100,000 or so???
AHA! PREDATORY RECRUITMENT. How many more Mister Speaker?! How many more UNSCRUPULOUS “College Fairs” lure innocent High School students to commit to years of INDENTURED SERVITUDE?!!!
I believe it is a pay off to the schools for teaching socialism. Check out these prices http://www.archives.upenn.edu/histy/features/tuition/1960.html
The government is going to wipe out my mortgage, wipe out my student loans and give me free health care.
So basically the government funds (and controls) housing, education and health care.
But it’s not socialism, just remember, it’s not socialism.
Student loan bailout - Another vote buying scheme.
Students need to stop crawling under the burden of student loans.
There are a _lot_ of cheaper options available than “what school do you _want_ to go to? ok, sign here.”
This is right out of OWS list of demands.
Stop offering the loans.
She is TARP and headed the Bank Of America and wall street bailouts for Obama.
It’s time the ‘RATS do something about tuition. The “students” need the ‘RATS to pass tuition reform now. Greedy BIG academia is ripping the “students” off with their outrageous tuition rates. It has got to stop.
It is a huge, huge problem. College costs are going through the roof and students are being urged to work at non-profit organizations and change the world. Studying practical subjects and getting a job is not a positive value in contemporary academia.
Universities are enabled by the nationalization of the student loan program. The best thing would for the government to scale back its lending. This is another liberal/conservative divide.
as far as they are concerned they already own you. May as well let them pay for you
The Greek model of bankruptcy. How convenient. Soon there will be no money nor volunteers to run the voting booths except black panthers.
