...what was the most POSITIVE Nostalgic memory all of you have from your Childhood.
I have a similar memory with picking out a Christmas tree.
Thank you for sharing that. As I am reading all these posts, I have to wonder what memory of my own children will be that monumental.
So you are saying you are a STRONG conservative woman. Because you went against the grain!
That must have been a sudden jolt!!!
“Touchbacks”SOOOO GETTING TOGETHER!!! LOL!
AppyPappy... why am I not surprised???
(love you AP, and I completely see you with your first felony before 14, only ‘cause you are ‘cool like that’)
finding a good roll of toilet paper in a gas station rest room
Reagan’s SDI speech. I was inspired and pleased that he had such vision. He used to come on once in awhile on TV and just do speeches. Presidents don’t do that anymore much, because none have had the presence and comforting way of talking to people.
Even as a kid I knew it was amazing.
Going to the drive-in with the families big old Buick. The grown-ups would put us kids in our PJs before we left the house. There was a small playground under the screen where we would play before the movie started.
When we got home, they’d put us to bed with runny noses and dirty PJs.
Going to drive-in movies with my parents. I remember seeing Paint your Wagon, The Sound of Music, Count Yorga Vampire and a few other gems from the ‘60s.
My dad had several of those. One for drills, one for screwdrivers, one for sockets, one for wrenches, one for knives .. the list could go on for a while. I remember having to clean the wood and metal shavings out of those with compressed air, and take the nozzle and make shrill whistles when placed between my fingers.
My grandpa taking me and my sister on walks every couple days, we’d stop by candy stores on the way to a park (candy stores on just about every block). We’d swing and slide at the park for a while, then we’d walk another mile to a bar and he would get drunk on beer. After a while, me and my sister would go in the bar and drag grandpa away and walk him home. Nowadays, would not be allowed but things were more innocent 60 years ago.
Going to my friend’s cousin’s farm in the countryside. We would play at a pond catching frogs, and run from goats chasing us. At the farmhouse, filling a glass of water from the tap and watching a tadpole fall in the glass - and drinking the water. Then finding out the tap water was pumped from the pond where the frogs were found. And laughing about it.
Fishing in the Auburn Ravine. I would make a path through the blackberries just to get to a deep hole that had fish that had never seen a human. I would be gone from dawn to dusk.
Bringing home my catch and having it cooked by mom!
Awesome fishing for a preteen!
Nope. We did that too. Kinda crazy when you think about it.
Chilly Easter in the small E Oregon town where I grew up, getting up for Sunrise service up on the hillside near the airport. I was small enough that my Mom put the lower part of her coat around me, trumpets playing across the draw as the sun rose, and then we sang “Up from the Grave He Arose”.
It was something like this, but much nicer.
One of the best memories I have is eating Tastykakes! If you grew up in the Philly area these were as much a staple as cheesesteaks.
