[Snip]...As part of Senate Bill 1813 (known as MAP-21), Congress has inserted language that would oblige the Secretary of State to revoke or deny a passport to any U.S. citizen who the IRS Commissioner deems as having "seriously delinquent tax debt."...For starters, in what may be one of the most depraved Big Brother moves on record, section 31406 of the bill makes it mandatory for "black box" event recorders to be installed in every new passenger vehicle starting with model year 2015.

We’re in a beautiful, freakin’ prison, aren’t we?
This is getting too creepy.
Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you need to threaten to report me to the Admin if I dont add you to the list...
I know it’s a dream, after the 2010 elections I thought we were possibly headed in the direction of less government, but now?
You mean something like this?
Liberty went up in flames after the coffin was nailed shut, thrown down a ravine, doused in gasoline, and lit on fire. If we could even find teeth to identify the remains, I would be shocked.
“seriously delinquent tax debt.”
Does this mean Al Sharpton will have to stay home?
We don't need this because we have a political party already devoted to those things.
Well, that narrows it to only a 2012-13-14 SUV to replace the current unit; no 2015s in any future purchases, it would appear.
I was putting off buying a new car but it looks like 2013 will be the year. It will then have to last the rest of my driving years.
Unconstitutional.
Would this keep Warren Buffet from being able to travel?
Heck, most of Obama’s cabinet wouldn’t have been able to travel...
And why do ALL of our “conservative”, Republican AND Tea Party Representatives vote for this stuff every time?
Are they all compromised in one way or another?
Say what you will about Ron Paul, but at least he always votes correctly on freedom issues.
That which can be installed can be uninstalled.
But to get back to frightening reality we all need to never ever lose sight of the fact that this bill and all the other nonsense could not get passed if a goodly portion of the GOP were not voting for it. When do we stop calling them go alongs and start calling them co-conspirators?
Oh I agree. I have little respect for either party. They are both guilty.
Same feeling here, s.
With the current passports all that has to be done to cancel it is to enter the passport number into the program and cancel it. Your high tech beautifully crafted passport becomes, at best, waste paper, at worst- the document that identifies you at the airport for the goons waiting to pick you up for trying to leave the country without government permission.
And what if our black box “malfunctions” after we buy the car? Does the government pay to fix it? I predict that mine will malfunction rather quickly. And I don’t plan to report it to anyone.
Starting in 2015 purchase of a used car will get you placed on the Suspected Domestic Terrorist list or/and the Suspected Tax Evader list. Look for a particularly aggressive IRS audit.
